394 Harmonic Balancers

Is this coincidence or what? Last year When I took the balancer off my 62Starfire coupe to have it remanufactured because the pulley shifted, the harmonic balancer came right off not requiring the use of a puller tool. When I re-installed it I was told to use a Loctite surface adhesive product specifically made for such situations. All went well. I'm now removing the balancer from a recently aquired 62 Convertible and I can't believe that the same ease of removal occurred again. Has Anyone else come accross this issue. They weren't designed to be an easy slip on were they? Would like to know of other experiences.

I don't see what your concern is if the bolt in the end of your crankshaft is at Torque specs as the Harmonic Balancer is kept in alignment with a Key Way and the Balancer should have just a snug fit when installing it. Using a Puller to remove it is only needed to just getting it to break free from being Torqued.

Thanks for your thoughts and perspective. Just thought that they all required to be pulled off by tool as well as pressed on as was the case with my 350 and 455 Olds engines. I guess I will not be so concerned about it and make sure I torque it to specs.
