Kick panel speakers

I recently went threw the search and was wondering if anybody has came up with an acceptable speaker for the kick panel location. I have a set of aftermarket panels that seem to work well with the passenger side with Infinity 6032 speakers. The problem is on the driver side that the speaker magnet hits and causes the panel to sit proud from it original location and has a major interference with the emergency brake. My last resort is to modify the emergency brake pad by offsetting it to the right. The speaker depth of the Infinity's are 2" top mounting depth. I saw a pair of Sony XGT1626A which look like they have a depth of 1-3/4". Has any body used another manufacturer's speaker?

Thanks Dave

I ordered the kick panels with the pioneers in them had to remove the parking brake to install.

Are they the 6" pioneers and how do they work? I'm thinking of getting a set.

Yes they are and they work pretty good. I have the fade set 2/3rds to the back as I find the sound a little loud from the kick panels.

So where are your rear speakers located and what kind are they? Mine had a couple of boxed rear shelf speakers strapped to the rear of the back seat...dodgey.I can see where there is space for speakers to go into the seat frame but the left side one has been hacked about. I was wondering whether I should just go with front speakers.

I had the dual single speaker in the front but ended up unhooking it as I found the sound to much right in my face LOL
I installed to Pioneer speakers in behind the back seat and they sound pretty good but you loose a little when the top is down. I do have a covert so there was no shelf to mount them properly. When I got my car there were two old speakers already mounted here but I think originally there was only one??

Maybe just try the kick panels first and see what you think.
Thats what I did then added the back ones.
It is not a fantastic sound but it works and it keeps my wife happy.
I prefer just to listen to the sound of the car. LOL

Thanks..sounds like a plan. Mines a convertible too so I know what you mean by losing sound when the top is down.
Same deal here too.....all about keeping the missus happy.
Cheers

I have the kick panels with Infiniti speakers in my '68 GTO and everything clears fine.
They're loud enough to hear with the top down and sound okay.
The rear seat speakers can only be heard with the top up so not much good.
I would never cut holes for speakers into the doors or rear side panels in a million years. It always looks like somebody hacked speakers in to me, but as I've said before, if it's your car you can screw it up as much as you want.
I had another GTO where they used a die to punch out round speaker grill patterns in the vinyl and carefully cut the backs of the panels out, bunch of little holes in concentric circles is all you could see.
It looked about as clean as you can get, if I did put in speakers in mine in a million and one years from now that would be the technique.
I also had a Grand Prix convertible that had a factory stereo and the speaker was in the top center of the back seat, lots of cars had them there back then. It seems like my '62 and '64 Chebbies hardtops had speaker deals there too?
Be really cool to take a good extra rear seat back to a trim shop and have a speaker set-up like that done.

Get those headrest speakers with rear seat video monitors, instant drive-in movies. Just drive the car up on ramps in the front and turn out the lights and it would be just like the real thing.
I wonder if those monitors have defoggers???
Put headrests on the back seat with speakers in them???

$137 on eBay for kick panels with 80W speakers...extra for 160W Pioneers (I think the latter would be the go)
I'm gonna forget about rear speakers. Never anyone back there anyway and I never drive with the top up.
The headrest video monitors for the drive-in effect, hmmmm.......not quite enough leg room in the back of 72 442 vert. Might keep an eye out for a decent Vista. Seats down, matress, pillows & doona in, back it in and that's the way to do the drive in thing...not that there's many drive ins left.
Someone actually recently opened a drive in theatre in Sydney. Before that there was one left. They're marketing it like it's the new revolution in movie watching.

I live less than ½ a mile from a 7 screen drive in. But amazingly I have never been there in the 2 years I have lived here.

Seven screens
Most I've ever seen is two.
Must be a massive complex or are they getting like theatres these days...smaller. Like each drive-in takes only 10 cars
Living that close you wouldn't need to go. Surely you'd be able to see one of those screens from your place, maybe from up on the roof. A deck chair and a few cold beers....nice way to spend a summers evening

It's a round theatre so the screens are kinda all over the place.

I'm having trouble picturing a round 7 screen drive-in theatre
Is there a website I can check it out on?
I have this weird vision of the same movie playing on 7 screens and people can just park in the middle facing whichever screen they want. Be chaos at closing time

I'm doing the same but could only find 1 bolt to remove. Also, is your car a non-air car ? How do you get the old kick panels out with the flange on the other side of the metal?
