Unhappy Emblem replacement

I really did search this site before asking.

I am going to replace the "442" emblems on my '67. The trunk-no problem. The front fenders - looks like I have 3 options.
  1. Remove fenders - things never go back together the way they came off
  2. Remove doors and find someone with skinny arms - see above about going back together.
  3. Cut "hand size" hole in inner fender and patch
Any suggestions / advise from the group?

I would remove/unbolt the wheel well housing since you are concerned with the fenders not lining up if you remove them... IMO I would not cut the inner fender/wheel well housing... Once the wheel well housings are loose you can most likely just slide them out of the way... The doors would not be a wise choice, you would have to deal with heavy doors and realignment issues...

Remove the 2 bolts at the heel of the fender and remove all of the bolts holding the inner fender well to the fender lip. If you have the inclination remove the inner fender. Pull the fender heel out and there will be ample access to the nuts holding the emblem on.
If the bolts are rusty spray with a rust penetrant a month in advance of starting the work.
