69/70 442 difference?
69/70 442 difference?
Hey guys have a question for you. What is the difference between the 69 442 convertible and the 70 44 convertible. All I see is the grilles are different. Any thing else?
the whole body is technically different, they look a like but for those who own a 69 or 70 we can tell you they aren't even close. There were just under 3000 convertible 442s made in 1970 so its not like there are a ton of them around. A real sweet deal in this market is to find a 70 cutlass convertible, more of those around and just as many repo parts and you can customize it a little more guilt-free. Just a thought.
As others have pointed out, NONE of the sheetmetal interchanges. You can mount a 1970 hood on a 1969 (and vice versa) with some work, but that's it. Also, the interiors are completely different, as are the dashboards. About the only things that DO interchange are the frames, axles, suspension, drivetrain, and seat frames. I suggest you spend some time on Google Images and compare.
Are you actually planning on buying a car and a parts car?
Or are you trying to get to a thousand posts in record time?
You can see how hard it is to find a '70 by actually trying to find one yourself.
Unique concept but it works.

. One day I want to get one and restore. I see a few float around once in a while. My 77 is kind of difficult to find parts, so I was just wondering on the 70's since their is alot of guy's here that have restored them, that they know where parts are available. It's easier to ask question's first before you start, then a person know's what they are getting into

One of the most distinctive differences between the '68-69 convertibles and '70-72 convertibles is that the earlier cars have a nice, smooth, swoopy curve over the rear tires while the later cars are "notchbacks" -- meaning there is a sharp angle over the rear tires. Look at a picture and you'll see.
I've looked at the photo's and I don't see much of a difference. All I've noticed was the grilles looked different. Didn't notice the body panels were different either. I will look again and see what you are talking about. Thanks for comments
why you have that record and don't want it broke
I just have question's and curious about restoration's and what should be done. Easy to ask question's from the pro's then wast money and get the wrong things done.If I could help out people here about their cars I would but I don't know enough yet as I am still learning. Ask any question's about building construction and I would be happy to help you out, if you or anyone else were really stuck I would even go there and show them how to do it
Now this is funny. The only thing Alan [Bluevita] knows more about than Oldsmobiles is construction.

Good luck on your search for an Olds. I'm partial to 69 myself.
