'64/'65 Cutlass....what rims and tires larger than stock

Looking to get some new wheels and tires for the wifes '64 Cutlass drop-top that i bought her last Fall. Any idea what size I can get by running without running into trouble? Currently the car has 205/70-14's on the front and 235/70-14's on the rear. I'd like to step it up in size of rims, but not to the point it looks like a Donk, or not where I have to run rubber band tires. I like to see sidewalls. Is a 15" about the max, or does anyone run larger? And if so, any pics?

I have a 64 cutlass running 18x8 in front and 18x9.5 in the rear. Theyr called boss 338. Theyr a real nice old school looking wheel with modern size. Everybody loves them and don't look donked out. I'd post a picture but not sure how from my phone. I rub also up front very rarely mostly out of the driveway or uneven surfaces. I also did some light trimming in the rear to the wheel well against the quarter panel there's a wierd bulge in the panel underneath. Some people wouldn't do it or frown on it probably but my car looks the way I want and breaks necks everywhere!! I can't text you pictures or email if you want, pm me and I can text easiest

Oldstata....nice!!! How does it ride with 17" rims?

Plus your Olds looks to sit considerable higher than mine. It does have air shocks in the rear, but I'm going to have to look and see how the front is lowered, if in fact it is. I get a measurement here in a short and let you know the ride height. I just hope the springs weren't cut or torched.

I've ran 17's on about everything I've had, but the Olds looks like it sets low. I tried to find a visualizer site, where you put the year of the car in and then can swap wheels to see what it looks like. THey either go back to 2000, or if they go back to the '50-'60's, they don't have any Olds in their system.

Mine is stock 49 years old suspension maybe the shocks have been done but that's about it I be had weight in the back and it's been fine. I do think converts are not as wide for the wheel well but not positive in that I can measure and you could inside wheel wells across to check I know if you plan to go newer rear end it's longer so you will loose a 1" if you go disc brakes you loose a 1" I believe so if you plan on these upgrades might want to keep the rear 17x8

olsdata....I just measured to the top of the fender wheel opening and it is setting at 23". As far as converts not being as wide for the wheel well, I have no clue. This is the first Olds I've ever owned. I do notice that the inner fender has a weird bulge at the back of it that i have never seen on other cars, so that will cut down on some of the size.

Currently I am working on getting a different set of bucket seat tracks in and the mounting plates for the buckets welded onto the floor. (still have to find one more set of tracks) I'll have to do some serious measuring, and if anything, I may just go old school and step up to 15's with some larger rubber on them. i want to be able to run the largest (widest) tire I can on back without interference, but I'm not going to hang out past the fender opening to the point I have to depend on air shocks for clearance. I like old school, but not that old of school. LoL!!!!!

here are some photos of my wheel and tire combo. the hunk of metal is the inner quarter i cut out to accommodate the rear wheels and eliminate any chances of rubbing.

No I haven't yet, yeah I had to do big sections under the rear window, the trunk seal under the rear window and the bottom rear quarter panels behind the rear wheels. It still needs the trunk done. I'm not worried about it right now, it doesn't get wet often. I'm too busy driving and enjoying it! Maybe next winter when I get my own welder.

Okay measured inside trunk from wheel well to wheel well 46/1/2 inch

Width of wheel well to fender panel rear was 13" as stated above there was a hump looks about 1/2" and after 3" up started to taper up so if it's dropped I don't think you could clear much more than the 9.5" of rim if the tires hang over compared to the stretched look

I went larger in diameter but not a lot wider I used a set 15X6 in front and 15X7 in the rear.

Now that looks sweet!!! I think I may just go with 15's.

the bad thing in trying to decide, is that most places around, they want to cover their butts by you telling them what you want, and nothing about trying one on for size, which is expected.

The 14's don't look bad on the car as it is, but I want something a little larger. The 15's on your's looks super.
