What size tire for 15x7 ssII rims?

Hello, I'm currently restoring some 15x7 ssII rims for a 1971 Cutlass Supreme. Was curious as to what size tires would fill up the fenderwell and give me enough meat on them without looking funky. I'm probably gonna end up going with BF Goodrich Radial T/A's. I was thinking about the size P235/70/R15. Was also thinking about P255/70/R15 but I don't know if they will rub. Please give me insight as to what you have found to work and look the best. Pictures would be much appreciated. Thanks! Also, what is the max overall diameter of rim and tire and also the max section width on measuring rim width I could go with? For example, the P235/70/R15 I am looking at have a section width (on measuring rim)of 9.5". Thanks for your help! Remember pictures appreciated. Never realized how hard finding the perfect set of tires really is haha

Yes I agree with the 245 60X15's. They look nice and will fit without any problems.

Yes I too agree with the 245 60X15's. They look nice and will fit without any problems.
I had 255 on the rear and a full trunk and about 4-5 passengers I got some rubbing on the bumps.
I like the BFG's too, they look nice and smoke really well.

What rear gear do you have? 70 series rears are 29" and will look too tall and bulky. If you like the big/little look, 275/60/15 rear, 245/60/15 or 225/70/15 front fronts are very popular. Another good combo slightly smaller is 255/60/15 rear, 235/60/15. Or if you want all the same size, 245/60's like others mentioned. Check the team cheve!!e forum, lots of guys post their tire pics.

The 68 in my sig has 275/60 & 245/60. I will soon be doing a set of 15x7 SSII with 255/60/15, 235/60/15.

I just got my 255/60 -15(rear) and 235/60-15 (fronts) back from the tire shop where they mounted Cooper Cobra's on new reproduction Rally II's. I should be able to get them on the car this weekend. I really wanted Dunlop GT Qualifiers but no longer available in RWL in the classic sizes.

I think the 275/60/15's look the best on the back of a 70-72 Cutlass.

I went back to factory size G70R 15 or 225 70R 15. When buying tires look for the numbers after "DOT" It might say something like 1610. The 16 means the tire was build in the 16th week of the year. The "10" is the year. Don't buy old tires that have never been used. Use this guide to know that you are buying new and not helping the shop dump its older tires. It's also a safety matter.

after decades of radials, the performance of fiberglass belted tires will be disappointing

best to have wheel width equal to tread width

Anyone run p295-50-15 on 8 inch ralleys, I saw some on a GSX at Barret Jackson last year and they looked great. I like the balloon look personally!

I have original 14" rally wheels on my '72 CS and have found that tire options are VERY limited. So I ordered after-market 15" SSI rally wheels and now have a ton of options. Will most likely go with the 225/70/15 in order to get more height for the car. Thought about the 235/70/15 as well but near 3" in height gained could create some rubbing problems.

I have a 1969 Cutlass S Hardtop with 455 and dual exhaust. The tires below are what I'm using...great tires for the price and look awesome to me with plenty of compliments from other Olds guys up here in the Great White North. In the rear it just barely clears but that's because the exhaust I got from PYPES wasn't bent correctly and I didn't want to go through the hassle of returning. I had to do some manual heating and bending but got it to where I needed. Anyway with proper exhaust bends in the back you'll have plenty of clearance. Good luck.
