Good morning Gentlemen,

I own a 72 CS with disc front brakes. I would like to change the rims (Cragar today) back to "original" Superstock Rims. As those are not available here in Germany I have to order them in US.
As american/european tire sizes differ a lot from each other I am pretty unsure which is the right superstock rim for my car.
Getting a hint here would be highly appreciated. Does someone have experience with those aftermarket rims from year one & co ?

Do they have to be the exact size that came on the car? I know that laws over there can be very strict about a lot of stuff like that where here, not so much.

Yep, laws here are quiete strict...i can run three different (tire/rim)sizes on my car according to my documents, which is 215/70VR14 (rim not specified,your mentioned rim should match I guess), 275/60HR15 (rim 10Jx15) or 235/60HR14 (rim 6Jx14)
Dont ask for the sense behind it as there is none. But install a law in Germany and everybody will follow, we aren´t very good in questioning laws and rules.
I guess I try this 14x7, should be fine.

Good lord that's idiotic. The 235/60HR14 would fit as well and that is what I would suggest.

235/60-14s are very small in diameter. I'd suggest 225/70-14s as the most available tires that are closest to the original diameter.

I would agree with you Joe, but that size is not allowed by law in Germany on his car.

Thanks guys. I searched for both tires here (there is always a chance to convince the technical guys here to put another size in the documents as long as it differs not too much from the "original") but in both sizes there are only few tires available.
Seems that Cooper Cobra stopped to sell its Radial gt series here :-(

From the 1972 Salesman's SPECS booklet, there were three factory tire sizes available on this car: F78x14, G78x14, and F70x14.




The F78x14 tires were 26.5" in diameter. The G78x14s were 27.1" in diameter. The F70x14s were 26.2" in diameter.

Common sense (yeah, I realize that is lacking in most bureaucrats) should tell you that a replacement tire should be about the same diameter as original for both load carrying and speedometer accuracy (both should be considered safety-related issues).

215/70-14s are 25.85"
235/60-14s are 25.15"
275/60-15s are 28.0" and definitely won't fit on the front

None of the "approved" tire sizes are appropriate from a common sense standpoint.
