Engine paint colors
Doing a rebuild / restore on my 54 Super 88. It was so bad that I can't tell what color anything was.
I don't have to get back exactly to OEM colors, but I'd like to be in the neighborhood. The best I can tell, the block was green - but is it a light green, dark green, or what? Was the intake and valve covers the same color? What about the breather?

Yes it was green with the raised letters on the valve covers painted yellow.
Not sure how exact it is, but Slater has one for sale with some good views around the engine. Check out the video in his thread. John

The yellow script on the valve covers is a direct match to One Shot lettering enamel #130-L and can be found at most any good auto paint supply house.
And yes the intake is the same as the valve covers.....Tedd

Here is Bill Hirsch paint. It was brushed on after steam cleaning, rough sanding, and a wipedown with lacquer thinner.

You could take your valve covers to a sign painter for the yellow lettering.

The yellow I listed above, the green I had custom mixed to match the valve covers and added a hardener for durability that only works if you can find a non faded piece of paint though ....Tedd

sorry, but i have to refurbish this thread.
I'm still looking for the right green and yellow (Yellow is already mentioned) and found an Engine Enamel from VHT.

I think the Kermit green sample picture looks almost like the original color.
What du you guys think?

If the car is just going to be a nice driver and you are not concerned with being spot on, go with Kermit green and it will be close or almost like the original color. If you are concerned with detail and maybe the car is going to be judged, go with Bill Hirsch or Fusick. I think Fusick only offers spray cans while Hirsch has quarts and spray cans. I have been very satisfied with the Hirsch paint.

Check the letter alignment before you try to do it in one shot... I ended up applying each letter individually because the spacing didn't match up to my valve covers as well as I wanted. It was also a *slightly* different font..
