Torque conver took a dump. Happened to me last year with under 1000 miles on the trans. I'm STILL fighting with the shop that did the work to reimburse me. It happened before I moved and he said it was in the engine. I took him at his word even thought I knew better. I moved and had it replaced for $500. I'm gonna see him in a couple weeks. He doesn't know I'm coming. I'll get my money one way or another.

Check your fluid for metal shavings on the stick. It's probabaly the sprag or one of the impellers hitting.

Possible cause of tranny whine...

My 67 Cutlass w/ 2speed Jetaway tranny and variable vane torque converter whines at low to part throttle (that is, when the kick-down switch works like it should!). The whine goes away as the kick-down switch shuts off at a higher throttle demand. I'm not saying that this is the problem, but I'm only offering it as a "shot in the dark". Keep us posted on the results and good luck! Jim
