Cam 180 out?
I Have a 71 350 that I am rebuilding.
I have a lunati voodoo cam lunati timing chain set I lined the marks up like normal instal of the timing chain. After checking the no1 .pusrod sizes. I relized the it was on the exhaust stoke. When the cam is at zero lift on the no1 cyl the dot on the gear is at 12 oclock. I am lost. I looked at the old cam and gear and they are 180 different. Has anyone installed their cams or has anyone seen this. |

Recently someone mentioned that a lot of people get confused when they are lining up the dots on an Olds engine.
I guess Olds is set up to have the dots lined up on the exhaust stroke on the #1 cyl. |

Since the cam turns at half the crank speed, it will be properly aligned twice - once when the dots on the two gears are facing each other (crank at 12:00 and cam at 6:00) and again when both dots are at 12:00. You just need to install the distributor so that the No. 1 plug fires when that cylinder is on compression.
