I've been looking around and getting ideas on my rebuild and such and I'm looking at roller tip rockers.

Can I use these with flat tappet lifters? Can I use full roller rockers with these lifters?

I want to stick with the edelbrock 7112 cam to match my intake and that is a flat tappet cam.

Roller rockers and roller lifters are unrelated. You can use either separately or both together. Roller lifters refer to a roller follower on the camshaft end of the lifter. Roller rockers refer to a roller on the tip of the rocker that pushes on the valve. Some roller rockers also have roller bearings on the rocker pivot itself.

OK I know they are 2 totally sepreate things, but my mech was talking about roller cams, lifter, and rockers.

$867 for a roller cam and lifters, $1067 adds the timing chain

Now paying $209 for the cam and lifters isn't too bad

Sure, you can have roller lifters/cam and regular stamped rockers. Don't know why you would, though. Many guys, myself included, have flat tappet cams and roller rockers. Roller cams do have advantages, but their major disadvantage is the initial cost.

However, if you do use a "roller" cam, that implies that you will be using the roller rockers as the ramps on the cam lobes are different than those on a flat tappet cam that would have similar total lift.

I should have added that, thanks oldsguy. I always buy lifters in a matched set with the cam, never swap lifters from another cam, etc.

Since, I don't know much about "implications".

Whether the rocker, has rollers in (or on) it, is a personal choice, as it is not required.

This only applies to used lifters. They must be reinstalled on the same lobes, of the same cam. With new lifters, the sequence doesn't matter.

New cams, lifters, and springs, do not care what name they are marketed under. As long as the new lifters and/or springs are are correct for the application, the manufacturer is not relevant.

That is what I meant, sorry for not being clear enough on the matter. But, just my opinion, stay away from el-cheapo lifters, not worth the few $ you save.
