Block off plate?
What can I do to block off the exhasut from exiting the manifold at the crossover port?
When I had my duels put on, they cut the pipe off, welded it shut and rebolted back to the exhasut manifold. I just got the car inspected today, it passed, but on the way to the shop smoke started pouring from the hood and comming out of the vents, not too thick, but enough to see it. I quickly pull over, pop the hood, thinking I broke a tranny or coolant line, and here it's the exhasut pouring out from right there. I was told you can't weld cast iron (307 exhasut mani's) so what do I do? It's a little too cold to drive with the windows down ![]()

Is it leaking where the crossover pipe (now plugged by being welded) bolts to the manifold? If so, did they put the gasket back on or install a new one? If not, that is why it is leaking. Take it back to the shop, they should fix it.

There are bolts and springs that go on the flanges too, but I'm sure you got it figured out by now.

Yeah I just have the bolts, no springs.
I guess I should get them too, they absorbe the vibration and won't back out, right?

Yeah, the eventual rattle will drive you insane.
http://www.napaonline.com/masterpage...d=6&SubCatId=1 On my 84 delta I used to disconnect the flange, mess with the timing until it would shoot flames out of it, and go drive around the neighborhood like that lighting up the undercarriage and setting off everyone's car alarms. I did a lot of stupid things though when I was 17.

If I were you I would take the manifold off and take it to a welding shop and have them weld up the manifold. Cast iron can easily be welded by someone who knows what they are doing. I am surprised Oldsguy didn't mention it. Hi Tech welding in KCMO does alot of welding for Oldsguy and I. They have welded aluminum, bronze, and cast iron for us before. I am sure there is a good shop in your area that you can find in the phone book.

You just need a block off plate made. The exhuast shop should be able to do this. I have seen these on ebay.

have the gasket and the bolts.
I tried to fix it last night, but I couldn't bugde the bolts since I don't have a lift and had to do everthing on the ground. I didn't want to use WD40 on the exhaust manifold either. The motor will throw flames from there Yeah it's cool, but right next the the oil filter is bad enough ![]()

Use PB Blaster or a similar product and use multiple applications over week's period. Then on the last day you can try to break them free. I think most of those kinds of products have a high flash point and are fairly safe, you could apply it in the evening and let it set overnight, by the next day when you drive it most of the vapors will have been dissipated. Of course the way many people do it is to use heat on the nut/bolt but using a flame under the hood is too dangerous in my book. Good luck.

Well I got fixed today. turns out that ALL exhaust points were leaking
![]() Got them all fixed. Now I'm not worried about dying a horrible death while driving down the street, but the car is now super quiet. That's the part that makes me !
