How to tell if my 350 was originally a 4bbl?
What's the best way of telling if my 350 in my 71 Cutlass was a 4bbl originally? The original carb, intake, aircleaner, tune-up tag, and markings on the oil fill tube are long gone. The casting numbers on the heads are "409147". The block casting number is "X555XX".
Where is the engine ID number on this engine? Thanks! Huron |

You can look it up just by your VIN. I can't remember the site where I looked mine up.. it's been so long ago.

The only engine-related info you'll get from a 1971-earlier VIN is whether the car was originally a V8 or six.

If it was a Cutlass Supreme, it was a 4-BBL for sure.
