Squeeling 307
I have relaced the belts, have tightened to less than 1/2", have replaced the altenator, now heading toward replacing the fan clutch. The AIR pump and A/C compressor have been removed.
Only two belts remain, the altenator and the pwr steering belts. It squeels (loudly) for the first 30 seconds or so at start-up. Is it the fan clutch? Is it the water pump? is it bad pulleys?

Most likely the pulleys are glazed and mirror smooth shiny....scuff em with some coarse emory cloth then tighten belts and all should be well....if belts are glazed try roughing them up too or replace.

I would check the tension of the belt. I have solved my problem by leaving the air pump and the ac unit and belt intact but removed all related gear for each (air tubes and associated vac lines, the a/c lines, condenser, drier and such) this equalizes the tension and will stop your squeeling and save your water pump (stress on the bearing) In the other thread they talk about moving the Alt to the passenger side to eliminate problems.

After reading both threads, Ive decided to put the AIR pump back on as well as the A/C belt.
The previous owner of the car had removed the AIR pump, can someone tell me if there was a specific bracket for this, or did it mount to the A/C bracket??

To remedy a squeally belt try running a bar of soap along the belt while it is running
