Engine trouble

I am forwarding this pm I got from skeeter_jr, one of our new members. Hopefully we can help him out.

I have a 1995 Olds Regency Elite 98 Supercharged Engine that just threw a bearing last week. The week before the harmonic balancer had been replaced almost immediately after it started making noise. How likely is it the two are related? Knowing what you know about Oldsmobiles, is it worth a new engine?

Thanks for any wisdom you might be able to impart.

Ken

If they are externally balanced engines, the harmonic dampener certainly could have caused a main to self-destruct.

Not up on newer engines to say anything else.

Hi; I own a repair shop and it sounds to me like the thrust bearing went.If the crankshaft is allowed to become imbalanced or a clutch pilot bearing is damaged it may cause the crank to walk back and forth thus causing excessive end-play.It's also critical that the right pullers be used in the job so that damage does'nt occur to the thrust bearings during repair.Hope this helps Sean
