Welcome.
Do you mean #395558? that would be a '73,'74 350 according to the FAQ. http://oldsjunction.classicoldsmobil...blk.htm#Blocks |

Welcome to our site. Do you also have a car? Or just an engine?

So the engine is newer than the car according to the id number. Not a big deal, may have been replaced by a dealership early on in the car's life.

Nope not in Olds speak, but compared to a Honda you would say Yes they are.
But the 350 is a great motor capable of all kind of cool things. It lacks some of the torque of the Big Blocks but don't sell it short by any means. What kind of car is the motor in? Does it have a 350 tranny with it?

I think the factory specs were in the high 200s for the 2bbl equipped, maybe 20 hp higher for the 4bbl one. But those numbers really don't mean a lot. I have a reference at home I can look it up for you. 2bbl or 4bbl?

Take off the air cleaner housing and measure the "hole" in the middle.

This is an air clear. [could be red I forget] It is attached with one wing nut so not tools are needed.

That 350 block casting was used from 1968-1976. The FAQ is wrong, which is why we've fixed it in the Wiki. The VIN derivative on the driver's side of the block will tell the exact year.

All Olds V8s (except 215) from '49 into the '70s, were called "Rockets".
Except for advertising, the term is useless. Norm |

Norm that is true, but I still take pride in referring to my engines as rockets. It's kind of fun.

And the 215 was called the "Rockette", so at least someone in the marketing department had a sense of humor.

even in the 90s, the quad 4 was called Oldsmobile's smallest rockets. your car is a great find. i see a 57 98 running around my town from time to time. trying to locate him but had no luck so far.
