I agree...I need a place to post the poem my little sister sent me last night.

Twas the night before elections
And all through the town
Tempers were flaring
Emotions all up and down!

I, in my bathrobe
With a cat in my lap
Had cut off the TV
Tired of political crap.

When all of a sudden
There arose such a noise
I peered out of my window
Saw Obama and his boys

They had come for my wallet
They wanted my pay
To give to the others
Who had not worked a day!

He snatched up my money
And quick as a wink
Jumped back on his bandwagon
As I gagged from the stink

He then rallied his henchmen
Who were pulling his cart
I could tell they were out
To tear my country apart!

‘On Fannie, on Freddie,
On Biden and Ayers!
On Acorn, On Pelosi’
He screamed at the pairs!

They took off for his cause
And as he flew out of sight
I heard him laugh at the nation
Who wouldn’t stand up and fight!

So I leave you to think
On this one final note-
IF YOU DONT WANT SOCIALISM
GET OUT AND VOTE!!!!

I also belong to mercurycougar.net. On that site there is a section called The Den that is for just such topics. It too gets out of hand sometimes.

p.s. I just joined this group and will be doing an introduction soon.

You can use the "Other" sub-forum. It is kind of a catch all, or the "General" forum.

I don't think we should include politics or religion in our forum. I don't feel like hearing about politics on the Olds site when I can just turn on the TV or look at the news and get an overload.

I think it might be better if all the threads in General discussion went into the Clubhouse and do away with the General Discussion section. Just my .02.

To me the General section is Oldsmobile related. The Clubhouse is anything not Olds related.

Anyway.... Thanks Paul !!! That was quick!

The problem here is that poem or otherwise it is expressing a political view. And one of the things I first read on this site was no politics or religion. I do believe Obama stated that he wanted to re-instate the tax rate for people making over 250,000 that george bush had cut. now he is considering letting it expire in 2010. He wanted to give tax breaks to middle and low income families ( people who would spend the money because they have to so that would go directly into the economy) The current bill for these tax breaks has been cut so that there would be tax breaks for buisnesses. Money for education spending appears to be in jepordy as well. And republicans can not seem to look beyond their own wallets to see the benefits of education and health care for U.S. based buisnesses. Plus setting up new technologies to provide alternative energy sources for the future. You have no idea how little a tax rate americans pay compared to the rest of the western world. I make 30,000 a year and pay approx. 25% in taxes plus I pay 13% tax on everything I buy except groceries. a gallon of gas is about $4.00 and a pack of smokes is around $10.00. The last time I bought a 12 pack of beer it was over $20.00. electric heat averages out to $240.00 a month. I have a phone , t.v. and internet service from a single provider which reduces my cost to $170.00 per month. I am currently on disibility and live on 35% less than my income when I left work and yet I survive in my own home which I still pay the mortgage and insurance as well as a loan . But at least I have free health care and I can get help to get re-educated. To say what the current U.S. government is trying to do is socialism then I guess most other developed western countries are socialists and well on their way towards communism. I thought the U.S. was a democratic nation but if that is true then a lot of Americans have forgotten the definition of democracy. America was founded on that definition , and all Americans regardless of race or religon should be given the same opportunities to suceed. But that has never been the case throughout american history.Every once in a while someone does come along and make changes to try to level the playing field such as Abraham Lincoln who faced a major crises which if he did not act as he did the U.S. would be divided into 2 countries now. F.D.R. who had to deal with the great depression and faced many of the same critisms as Obama and that is government taking over too many functions that should be left to private buisness. Sometimes private buisness does not concern themselves with needs of the average person but only with making larger and larger profits in order to keep their shareholders happy. When big buisness depends on wall street for their life or death then they will do what is neccesary to keep their profit margins. The manufacturing industry moved their buisness out of country to compete with cheap clothing. Along the Texas and Mexico border there are now dozens of buisnesses who shuffle mexican workers in the back door to do the work Americans used to have. Buisness went to congress to try to increase the amount of foreign workers coming into the U.S. every from 1.5 million to 2.5 million. Bill Gates from micrsoft was adament that he needed more foreign computer programers because there are not enough qualified American programers ( the fastest growing post high school course taken by Americans in the last 10 years ). of course these foreign programers are paid less. Now Microsoft is announcing layoffs in the U.S. and abroad. I imagine they will shed some of their higher payed programers. If the U.S. continues to become a consumer society without the supporting industries creating jobs within the U.S. the whole system is doomed to fail.Wall Street created a lot more wealthy people but it has had regulations left to themselves to oversee. The S.E.C. which is supposed to regulate Wall Street has systematically had their limbs chopped off and can no longer perform what they were set up to do. The reasoning behind this was that what is good for big buisness is good for America.Lobbyists have worked very hard to sway the government ( which is not hard when you fly senators and congressmen to all expense paid junkets to top of the line resorts in the Bahamas or Barbados) to help their clients (big buisness) increase their profit margins , stating of course this is good for America. I could go on and on about many more issues all politically based but this site is called CLASSICOLDSMOBILE.COM . Those who want to discuss politics should either start a new web site or find one where these issues can be hashed out.I would be more than happy to find a separate site to discuss this. I APOLOGIZE TO ALL THOSE WHO DO NOT WANT TO SEE OR HEAR SUCH RAMBLING ON THIS SITE AND FROM HERE ON IN I WILL NO LONGER EXPRESS ANY POLITICAL VIEW. I WILL ONLY POINT OUT THAT SUCH VIEWS SHOULD BE PUT IN PRIVATE EMAILS BETWEEN MEMBERS OR EXPRESSED ON A DIFFERENT SITE.AGAIN I APOLOGIZE BUT I WANTED TO SHOW MEMBERS WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF WE ALLOW THESE TOPICS DISCUSSED.

I know we all live in tense times, I just don't think this is the place for a debate.

On a personal level I like the line from "Charlie Wilson's War."

"We'll See."

I politely ask you again, please let's drop the subject.

Thank you.
