whats the going rate for a diesel block?

I have the opportunity to get 2 diesel blocks and wondering if ill be getting a decent price. One is complete and running in a Cadillac and the other is in a machine shop. my dad found the car and talked to owner so idk if they are d or dx blocks but he will take $1000 for the car and extra block, may be wiggle room on the price. should I make an offer on the one in the shop and call it good or buy it all and try to resell the caddy? they will be used for gas conversion.

Just for comparison purposes, last weekend I sold a DX motor that was a runner for $250. From a bone yard they are usually $100, with no guarantees. Just recently a guy on here was trying to sell 2 diesel blocks for $100 each. Buying a complete running engine, IMHO, is a better way to go because you can sell off the extra pieces. There's a lot of these engines still being used for pump motors on farms. The oil filter housing has fittings for oil cooler lines. I know of one racer who actually used the diesel crank in his race engine. His name is Pete and he has a pretty quick 1967. I don't know if I would buy that Caddy, it might be tough to flip.

yeah, idk if i could flip it. It sounds like he will only sell it all, wants the car gone. these engines arent easily found in my area and local junkyards want $200 for core engine, not that ive ever found one in a junkyard. I only want the blocks as i would build 400+ ci engines. i have a 472 caddy i could through in the car to keep it drivable. thanks

What year & style Caddy is it. What kind of condition. If its a junker you'll get about $500 across the scales for it.

If its a scrapper then it should yield a solid 2 tons without the engine. So figure out what its worth by calling a scrap yard for price/ton. Then make him an offer. Worst he can say is no. Don't be afraid to haggle on it.
