Parting '74 Cutlass H/O Hurst
A complete '74 Hurst H/O Cutlass has arrived at one of the yards I'm allowed to pull parts from. Yard owner and I go way back and he knows I'm active in helping fellow '73-'77 GM "A" body guys with their parts searches to preserve this generation of cars. Has the 350 engine w/floor console automatic (NOT Dual Gate Shifter). Black swivel bucket interior. Let me know what you need and I'll check condition/availability/price.

Do they also have the back plate or the metal piece shaped just like them just a little bit bigger ? Would like that also if so . What about steering wheel ? 3 spoke ? 4 spoke ? Upper door panels and rear upper panels ? How does the center center piece where the shifter is located ? I guess you would call it the trim plate for the shifter ? Can you get any pictures ot it . Thanks .

This car only had exterior emblems...on "B" pillars and on trunk. I brought one home with me (along with the metal backing plate) if you want to see what condition they are in. I don't know how to attach photos on this site, so maybe send me your e-mail address and I'll attach a photo.
Car has the rally sport 4-spoke steering wheel with Olds rocket horn button. Button isn't perfect...but, I'd rate it maybe 7 out of 10. Steering wheel has a rim cover on it, so don't know if the rim pad itself is sticky or not. Car also has the Rally Pac Gauge pod. Aside from that, I don't recall any other options other than the usual A/C, PS, PB. Didn't pay attention whether the floor shift steering column was a tilt (it did have the ignition key). Nor, did I look the dash over closely to see if it was solid and not warped or cracked anywhere.
Passenger side upper door & both rear panels looked to be in nice condition. Driver side upper door panel cardboard backing is rotted on the front part due to moisture.
Shifter indicator plate was so-so. Typical fading of the woodgrain and lettering that I see on virtually every console I come across. Seriously doubt they would allow parts to be removed and sold separately from the console anyway as it's nice enough otherwise to be sold complete.
I'll get pics of everything discussed and you can be the judge. Thanks!

Bill...to be perfectly honest, I don't know if the two models share the same grills. I believe they do...but, there may be some subtle differences that I'm not aware of. I can try and clarify that. I do have those grills in my possession and can send a pic if you forward your e-mail. I can't figure out how to post pics on this site.

Now for the scary part...he said it would probably run in the neighborhood of $500 shipped. If that doesn't scare you off, let me know and I'll get you pics and his contact info so you can work with him direct. Thanks.

Hi Steve.
What size are the SS-III rims? The H/O should have the FE-2 suspension, just in case someone is interested in it for their Cutlass.
Until I looked into it, I did not realize how many differences there were between the 350 & 455 Hurst/Olds models in 1974. Sort of like the differences between the '70 Cutlass & 442 Pace Car models.
I wonder what ever happened to the '74 H/O that had factory T-tops? It was supposedly a one only proto-type done in preparation for the '75 H/O, and was titled to CEO of Hurst Industries. It was in very poor condition and on e-Bay.
Also reminded me of the only '72 Hurst/Olds seen with the optional W-30 option. It was a sunroof car with the X VIN code, also on eBay, and was unfortunately very rotted.
Thanks,
Anthony

I'm still learning about these H/O cars, but the '74 H/O 350 showed up with two 15" sport wheels that were not the bolt-on center cap variety. Other two wheels were std. steel wheels. I confess, I don't know exactly the differences between the SSI, SSII's and SSIII's.
Now for the weird part...this same yard just got in another '74 H/O, but this one is a W-30 455! Both cars came from the same owner who had them sitting beside his pole barn for who knows how long. Divorce required they be liquidated, I guess. No title on either one and looks like a large tree fell on the right rear qtr. of the W-30. Car is basically junk for restoring, but the white interior seemed to be in good shape; along with some misc. stuff. Anyway, was looking at the wheels on this one and it had 14" sport wheels...but again, not the bolt-on center cap variety. Also, it had the standard style floor shifter...not the Dual Gate shifter. I always thought the W-30 came with the Dual Gate as std equipment. And, speaking of strange finds on this W-30, there was a Panasonic cassette player fastened to the top of the floor console with the H/O emblem stuck on it. Did a little research and it looks very similar to a Delco cassette radio shown for sale by a member here last year that was described as a super rare dealer option for '71/'72; complete with pics from a Dealer brochure. Guess it's not out of the realm of possibilities that this was installed as part of the Hurst conversion. Wish I knew how to post pics on this site as I'd love to show what we have here. Anyone care to tutor me?

That Ebay car is owned and supposedly being restored by a member of the other forum site. Only thing special was that it was once owned by George Hurst himself. But the addition of T-tops does not make it a one-off prototype. No '74 had factory T-tops, and most likely added by the Hurst team later on as no proposal or prototype cars in '74 had this.
But hell Linda Vaughn owned '79 H/O got $270K at auction for charity then recently sold again for $200K! Take a zero off that and it's still high for a '79 H/O IMO.
Anyhow, I seen these two cars on craigslist not too long ago. Pretty rough shape and do not see either being restored. Some good parts left though. Not sure if any W30 specific parts are left on that one. Curious to know if the engine and trans is correct still.

Thank you for checking on the rims. I also thought the '74 455 H/O had the dual-gate as standard, as well as the 15" SS-III rims. According to the 1974 Hurst/Olds Page, there were only 380 455 cars built, out of the 1800 cars sold.

Thanks for the information. From what I had read, the T-tops were only installed on the '74 H/O titled to George Hurst, but was also done as an exercise for their installation on the '75 Hurst/Olds.

Never hurts to ask. I'll see what they say. You do need to know the entire right rear qtr/trunk was flattened by what looks like a large tree that fell on it. Left qtr has sheet metal cut and torn away. Really a mess from the doors on back on both sides. Hood is trashed.

Pulled the right rear. Looks nice, but not perfect. Left rear on the W-30 looked like it might be nice as well...but again, it will be used and probably not perfect. I'll get back to you with details once they are cleaned up and inspected a little closer.

Let me know
one more item, complete wiring only for the rear defrost from the dash switch to the relay on the firewall

As for the opera window moldings, if I remember correctly, those windows are the same size as on the Supreme? You've basically got two options...try to find some used stainless ones from a '73 (only year they used stainless moldings) or, buy some chrome-looking plastic repros (like what came on your year car). Last I looked, repros run in the neighborhood of $160/pr. I've got a set of used stainless ones...but, they'll cost you more than that.

Hello,
I need the 455 W30 air cleaner and valve covers. Are those available?

Do you have the swivel buckets in white? How is the front bumper? Posi rear? Also looking for the small chrome trim piece that connects the left and right top chrome bands. Could use the corner chrome pieces that are bolted on underneath from inside the trunk.

Sorry...but, swivels were one of the first things to be sold off this car. The chrome trim pcs were missing or badly mangled as a tree had fallen on the roof and right rear qtr. As mentioned in previous post, this car has been crushed. The black one that came in at the same time is still around...but, it's been pretty well picked of any useful trim. No posi on that one. Can't remember the condition of the front bumper. Can check on next visit.
