FS: original 1972 455/M20 V Code engine core/trans and tags

I’m reluctantly offering a 1972 manual trans 455 core and M20 transmission for sale. These were the original drivetrain from a 1-of-77 V Code Cutlass Supreme hardtop. The car was heavily rusted after sitting under pine trees in New Hampshire for a decade. I kept the engine, trans and tags for a possible future resurrection, but it’s really unlikely that I’ll ever do that. The prior owner had the engine rebuilt in the late 90s with a Torker intake, Holley carb and headers, and he drove it approximately 10,000 miles before parking it. It was started in early 2010 and ran off of a gas can, but I never even attempted to run it since I would probably get tetanus working under the hood.

Sale includes the block, big valve 4 speed heads (one Ga and one G – just noticed that recently), alleged newer internals from the rebuild, Moroso deep oil pan, and balancer. No water pump, intake, carb, starter, flywheel or accessory brackets. The M20 has a nice case with no tab damage. I would guess it has never been opened up due to the amount of grime I had to scrape off of it. Everything has been kept in dry storage since removed from the car.

The VIN, cowl and blue door tags would be included too to do with them what you wish. It was a Flame Orange car with a black vinyl top and black bucket/console interior, non-A/C, clock, sport mirrors and bumper guards, 3:23 posi rear, no HD suspension. I have the NH bill of sale, but haven't transferred the car to a PA title. I would be willing to do that for a buyer at cost.

$1350. Located near Pittsburgh, PA. Pics to follow.

Wow that engine looks pretty clean inside. Terry would you mind posting a good pic of the manual trans crank end ?

Thanks

Hi Dean -
Here's one pic of the crank end that I have from last summer. It should look exactly the same now. Other than some crud in the water passages, the engine really isn't gunked up at all inside from what I can tell. The outside is another story....

Still available. Now PA titled in my name so there are no issues transferring ownership. Price no longer really negotiable since I dropped a few hundred more on tax, notary and PA state fees to get it titled since the original ad.

Would you consider delivering to Maryland zip 21128 for a reasonable fee? If so, I'd take it.

Dave, since he was first in the thread, I'm letting Dean (dnmfranco) investigate some logistics for getting it to CT. I'm not averse to a nice trip out I-68 and 270 to your locale, but my '72 truck isn't digging it. I could get my hands on another truck I'm sure. Stay tuned and thanks. ; )

Here's what the original car looked like (not the actual car, but its twin).

Terry,

I catch up with Dean quite a bit but I don't usually get to western PA. Do you ever get to western or central NY?

Would you be willing to post the VIN and tags so the car isn't recreated?

Guys in the interest of fairness for all, I will know by Monday. I don't want to hold up anyone and want Dave to have an opportunity if I cant see it thru.

Hi Dave -
I'm still casually looking at logistics to get this to you directly or via the "Olds underground" if anyone is traveling your way with a trailer via I-68/I-70/I-79, which all pass close to me. I'd love to get this off to a new owner before I give up my current storage garage in the next several weeks.

I hate to tell you, but I "lost" the "good" engine in my W-31. Right now, I have to focus on that. I'll know early next week more on what was damaged and what is salvageable. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
