1968-72 GM A-body convertible back seat for sale

1968-72 GM A-body convertible back seat for sale
I'm listing this for a friend and the seat is located in Eugene Oregon. This came out of a 1971 Buick Skylark(?) but I understand it would physically fit in the Cutlass/442. The stitching of the seat cover wouldn't be correct for an Olds, so a person may need to have a new cover put on it to match their interior. It's in very nice condition and shows little wear since being rebuilt. Price is reduced from $600 to $500 plus shipping, trades would be considered. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to see any additional views.

Still have the black seats, price dropped to $500 plus shipping. Also have a set of white seats from I believe a 1971 Cutlass convertible. $250 plus shipping on the white ones. The seat back may be usable as is, but the seat bottom needs the foam replaced. I've got lots more photos of each. Let me know if there's a few you'd like to see. John

John, I think the reason your friends Buick rear seats aren't selling is price point. That's a price that would easily buy A body buckets with $ left to start looking at the restoration.

Since the seat belongs to my friend she's setting the price for what she needs. But if you look at convertible rear seats they are much more spendy that non-converts. Here's a ratty one that sold on ebay for $399

Today I'll get the shipping details on the white seat for the first person who responded. If he passes I'll go down the list offering them up to the next person who replied.
nsnarsk65cutlass, thanks for the suggestion on the black seat covers. That could help sell it on ebay, getting the listing to reach people with 1968 Chevelles. John

John, I understand about that. I was just thinking out loud about the seats and how long you'd been storing them. No worries. As they say, every seat eventually gets a butt print.

I've sent a message to conehorojo with the shipping costs. If he decides that adds too much to the total cost of the white seats I'll go to the next person in line. heavydan must have been a few seconds in front of cdrod, cdrod I didn't get a PM so I'll need to go with the order of posts here. If either of you guys were interested in the black set let me know. Yes they're more expensive but could probably be used as is verse the white seats would likely need the foam replaced on the seat bottom portion.
P.S. the black seats are $500 rather than $600. I thought I made that change last year but must have forgotten!

How long I've been storing them.... I didn't realize how long its been since I created this post Oh well, what's a little clutter between friends

I'm interested in them. I'm really just looking for seat frame+foam for my 442 '70 convertible.
Frankly, I've already purchased the wrong frames once before. I've heard that the 68-69 are different than the 70-72 due to arm rests and spacers or something like that?
But, I do have all of the right interrior covers... so if the frames/foam are for a '70 442 convertible, then it works!
Ship them to Oakland, CA

Just to be sure, your interested in just the white ones if the guy before you doesn't take them? Or you'll take the black ones if the white ones are not available? Since you already have the wrong ones I can take pictures and measurements on these for you to verify they're what you need before completing a deal. John

I was just about to tell you that my preference is the white one and then the black one if the white isn't available, but I was just doing some research and I know that the coupe isn't the same shape as the convertible and I think only A-body convertibles from 70-72 will fit other A-body convertibles from 70-72. So, the skylark doesn't look like convertible seats and it's not an A-body...
In short, looks like the white is my only option unless somebody knows something I don't know?
Coincidentally, my '70 442 convertible is actually white

John:
I am still interested in the white seat, but I need a bottom cushion with cut-outs on the ends (like the black seat your selling) because my '72 has seat belt retractors in the back. I'm really looking for a good core because I have new white seat covers for my car. Shipping to 77057 77401. Thanks!

Please do take measurements. Both seats should be exactly the same size if they are both A-body.
Doesn't this indicate that the Skylark is not an A-body? Sorry, I'm probably misreading it.

The frame I currently have for my seats is for a 442 coupe, which was too side and had squared corners. I wish I could give you the exact measurements I'm looking for, but I haven't pieced together the interior yet. But, I quickly realized the frame was the wrong size when I couldn't get the upholstery over it.
In either case, if you can't work it out with the white seats, sounds like that would be perfect for me.

OK, I've taken pictures next to a back seat removed from a 1972 Cutlass two door hardtop. The convertible seats are clearly not as wide. Check out the photos and let me know if you have any questions or would like to see closeups of any areas. John
First the seat bottom. I've got the left side lined up between the two, that's the first picture. Then I moved over to the right hand side and can see the difference in width.

Now the seat back. I tried to line up the loops that attach at the bottom. Then looked at the two sides to see how much narrower they were.

The seat back has been rebuilt, but the seat bottom hasn't. It still looks pretty good, check out the photos to see what you think.

Hi John,
Thanks. I'm interested in buying the Seat and will take my chances.
I dont get any value in comparing the hardtop seat with the non-hardtop seat. It would have been valuable to compare the 71 convertible seat you have(had?) in white vs this one. I have a '70 convertible 442 and need one to fit my car. I don't know, by what magnitude a hardtop one is too big, so those measurements don't help.
So, if it's actually off of a 71 skylark convertible, I should be good

Sorry, I was focused on verifying it was for the convertible and not the hardtop. I did compare the seat bottom with the white ones and they are the same width. I believe these are the same with the exception of the notch for seat belt retractors. Is there any specific measurement you'd like me to take for you? I can get a shipping estimate for you this evening to give you that information to consider. John

Sounds good to me! Please send a shipping estimate. I'm in Oakland, CA. Feel free to PM me.
From what you had said, it sounds that the seat belt retractor notch isn't that significant ... and I will probably stuff it with padding anyway when I put my covers on the car.
