I know this is going to sound newbie...

what's the difference between auto and 4 speed carb? would I be able to use the auto carb if I go 4 speed one day?

You've got me on that one, it has worked on my auto car just fine.

When I bought my '69 automatic 4-4-2, it had a 7029253 service replacement carb on it. As I recall, the 251 and 253 carbs are the same, down to the primary and secondary fuel metering rods and jets. The only difference I know of is the number stamped into the side of the carb body.

Oddly enough, when my brother bought his '68 4-spd, it had a 7029251 RJ carb on it. He and I traded straight across and now I have a correct carb for my '69 and he has a nearly correct carb for his manual transmission car.
