q-jet re-stamp ? or w30 carb

Alittle late, but does this 0258 w30 carb for 70 w30 auto / OAI look legit

The _8 looks a little high... also can anyone tell me the build date shown in this pic.

I don't see any milled surface so it looks real. More of a close up would have been helpful

250th day of 73....its a service carb and many factory service carbs have funny stamps..and no assy line pick code..there shold be a 2 letter code on an assy line carb,,,..no one is going to re stamp a carb for 70 and put a 73 date..unless they are a moron...looks real...just wasnt an assy line carb..

Agree with alleyolds68 - it's a service replacement carburetor with a 1973 date on it. I've seen service replacement carbs a lot at swap meets and on ebay. I've got one on my '70 GTO. It was running real bad many, many years ago and the dealership said they needed to replace the carburetor, which they did with a same part number carb that also has a '73 date on it, like yours. Being unknowing then, I didn't think anything of it. If I could do it again, I would have saved the original unit. I did find another original that I'll put on the old Goat someday - with the two letter broadcast code and a date code consistent with the build date of the car.

But you indeed have a service replacement carburetor and it's not a bad thing!

Thanks for all your help on this carb ID. I have a service replacement on my 66 442 also, just did not know about the two letter broadcast code and the odd date code. I wonder if in 73 when the dealer delivered this carb if it came with the same profile as a real 70 w30 0258 with the same casting bottom half & top half. Oh and the metering... Is it the same. Well when it arrives, I'll have my Q-JET GUY look it over.
