Oldsmobiles in movies!

Check out the Oldsmobile!

http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_2445-Ol...ed2f1efb354d3e

I was watching Demolition Man with Sylvester Stallone for the trillionth time this evening. It is awsome that they use a 442. Too bad it has such a small part in the movie.

If you watch the movie you will see Sly and Sandra Bullock bust through the floor of an Oldsmobile dealership in the 442 right before the final chase scene. The wall of the Olds dealership says "Believe in the Future." I don't even think this was an Oldsmobile logo. Too bad Olds didn't make it to 2032. I wonder what the other cars in the Olds dealership were...

Yes, I have no life.

Yeah, too bad Olds didn't last that long. Sort of a sad harbringer. And you do have a life, it's just different.

There are some that I have seen but do not recall the movie but one that I have never heard metioned before is a very brief scene in The Eraser with Arnold Schwartz ... (whatever) and Vanesse Williams where they borrow a car from an old priest friend of the governator. It was a glass top Vista Cruiser but I cannot recall the exact year. A 69 or 70, maybe. I've looked for pictures on the web with no luck.

Here is a picture of the car in Eraser that you might be thinking about. I have the Eraser movie so I should double check it. However, I thought it was this Cadillac. I should check the other Arnold movies I have and see if he drives and Olds in any of them (I love the Arnold Schwarzenneger films).

And don't forget the gold convertable Woody drove in Kingpin. ( i forget what year). Is it me, or does Woody always seem to drive an Olds in his movies?

AWSOME! I will have to watch Lethal Weapon 2 this evening. I just got all 4 of them used for about $15. I watched the first one last night. Now I have something to look forward to this evening.

Yeah but too bad it isn't a turbo charged Oldsmobile engine in it. Looks like a modern GM LS1 or some sort.

Sorry.

I still need to check that one out though. I seem to remember Arnold driving around in a Vista Cruiser in one of his movies. I am just not sure which one it is.

Beverly Hills Cop 2 is on tonight. Axle is driving a red 68 olds cutlass convertible with white interior.
Also, I think Leno's Toro has a new GM 572. GM worked closely with him on it.

I watched Kingpin this weekend...and I'd swear the car is a '71 with a '70 rear bumper in the early "1979" scenes (i.e. when nice) but changes to what looks like a '72 in the "present" (i.e. when beat-up). Its a little hard to tell the year in the later scenes, since the taillights have red reflector tape over them and the grill is gone, but the headlight bezels were shiney and not painted (maybe the black paint wore off?). The hood also changes (diecast "louvers" towards the fenders early on, then none later). Almost strikes me as an intentional mish-mash.

Another movie with Joe Pechi (sp?) set in NYC featured a Toronado. I've never seen the movie, and I don't know the name of it, but the car was for sale on ebay a while ago. It had photo's of the car with Joe in it and pretty good documentation.

Gumball rally, one scene when they leave the gas station, the camera pans through traffic and an oldsmobile that kind of looks like a toronado is sitting in traffic. Its a background thing though.

lots of Oldsmobiles in 'Dazed and Confused'. Too bad most of them were in the background or just driving by. Great movie for cars.

Also, the movie "Dead Silence" with the scary ventriloquist dolls. The kid drives I think a red 71' Cutlass.

If you're talking about the black one, that was a Chevelle with a 396 in it.

Has anyone watched THE FRENCH CONNECTION lately? It's full of old cars of various makes. The last scene in the movie, The shootout at the old factory, Gene Hackman leans over the hood of a 68 Delmont 88. It's only in view for a few seconds. But by using slow motion you can make out the name script on front fender. Since I own a Delmont I thought that was cool to see. Besides Ted Kennedy it's The Delmonts only claim to fame!

In one of the "Sandlot Slugger" movies ( I think the first sequel) the mom of one of the kids drives a real nice '71 or '72 Supreme convertible. The scenes are really brief, but enough to get a good look at the car.

Hmmm.

"The Dark Half" featured a 1967 Toronado- the "High Toned Son of a Bitch"

"Gleaming the Cube" wrung out an 86-87 Trofeo

"WW" was a 1955. It was billed as a Golden Anniversary Oldsmobile. Wasn't.

Think it was "Milk Money" that smashed up a decent 71 Cutlass ragtop.

"Great Balls of Fire" featured a 57.

"National Lampoon's Vacation" crushed a 69 or 70 Vista Cruiser in the opening scenes.

"Black Cat Run"- the definitive 442 movie.

And there's been a ton of Oldsmobiles in music videos- back when they actually made such things, before MTV / VH1 went down the tubes.

My wife and I are really into 24. We watched the first week of the 6th season last night where Jack Bauer was released from the Chinese prison. After he escapes from the terrorists, he drives off in a 83-84 blue Cutlass 4-door sedan. I had one just like it. I am telling my wife "look, he is driving an Oldsmobile".

Hey everyone! Since we are on the topic of movie Oldsmobiles, I thought I would share my story. Not a huge fan of the movie, but "Girl, Interrupted" was partially filmed in my town in 1999 I believe. This is the film my 1966 Olds Cutlass convertible made it's movie debut in. If you look at this link http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_36564-C...ance-1970.html , my Cutlass appears right above the "meat wagon" in the foreground. The 1968 Volvo behind my car was driven by actor Jeffrey Tambor. I did see Wynona Ryder up close, but let's just say she wasn't in the mood to sign autographs. The imcdb site is great for finding movie cars!

I'm not certain whether it's good to have your favorite car in a movie or not. If a car is featured in a movie, usually there are at least 5 of them prepared before the filming starts, and at least 3 of the 5 wind up being destroyed. Sometimes 5 or 6 are destroyed in chase scenes, crashes, etc. Even so, the effect of featuring a certain car model in a movie is often to increase the popularity of the car, and perhaps that means more of them are saved from the crusher . Hot Rod magazine has run several features over the years on the preparation of certain cars for movies, and the companies that specialize in preparing them. Speaking of destruction, I hate those demolition derbys. There's always some idiot who brings a restorable classic and wrecks it. I saw a really nice '53 Olds get smashed to bits in a local demolition derby, and the same guy later asked me if I'd sell him my '62 Starfire, for the same purpose ! ( Urge to kill .)

OK, I know this is an old thread but, I was watching ANIMAL HOUSE last night and noticed that durring the parade scene, the cars were crashing all around and one went through the window of an OLDS Dealership and crashed into what looks like a Starfire or 88? I then remember reading a thread about Olds in Movies on here so I looked it up.

Gee, just for a few seconds camera time they abuse that nice car. Nothing compared to what they did to the Lincoln though.

I was at our cruise a while back and this was there. Guess what kind of car it was?

You win! Crown Vic cop car, dead giveaway that it's smoking like a Furd. There is a '62 4 door Lincoln Continental that's belongs to my my wife's brother that's been sitting in their mom's garage for at least 20 years and he lives overseas, hmmmm. Has a Harley Lowrider he bought new that's been sitting in there for nearly that long too just gathering dust.
It's not a movie but in a newer DQ commercial there is '67? Vista Cruiser sitting right behind a father and son in the lot with a bunch of other old cars.
