E85
I was wondering about using Ethanol in an older car and I found some information on ROP. Here is an article Car Craft did on Ethanol.
http://www.proformparts.com/newscont...pany_id=100719 I did some searching and found an E85 compliant carburetor here. http://www.quickfueltechnology.com/home_2.htm Seems pretty neat. It is pricey though. I would rather buy one of the conversion kits than buy a carburetor ready to go. I guess you would need an E 85 filling station nearby though. ![]()

I think LBF means the program that the government is trying to sell the public is a scam. Not to put words in his mouth but I would be willing to say that. Corn is the preferred product to produce ethanol in U.S.A. even though it is not the most efficient product to be used. So the Government subsidizes the farmers to produce corn for ethanol; less corn for food so the price of edible corn goes up but the ethanol program is propped up then. Also, there are other fuels that can be used as alternatives, and other sources of power as alternatives to E85. I am not saying it is at least an attempt to solve a problem but I think there may be other solutions that I would prefer. Why not just allow more refineries. The government could prop up that industry just as easily but it would not be "politically correct" or "green". There is never a simple solution.

Actually,
I mean ethanol, as a replacement / additive for gasoline, is a scam. All of my older cars run like crap on it, and we will never "produce" enough of it to make a dent in the amount of gasoline that is consumed in the US. In the meantime, the price of food products that use corn will continue to increase.

When B-body.org was still around a guy in the midwest somewhere was running E85 in his 1983 Buick LaSaber and he said the car topped out at 70 miles per hour. This car was worked and was running low 12's in the 1/4 mile.
He ran the tank out, filled it back up with whatever Octane he used, and the car was fine. He went back and forth for a little while and still had the same results. Plus I heard that is your car is not E85 freindly, the fuel will start to eat away at the gaskets and the alminum inside the block of the newer cars. I wonder how many people put E85 in a regualer car thinking, "Wow, I'm saving soooooooo much money" ![]()

Truthfully, I haven't seen many filling stations with E 85. I don't know how the price compares to gasoline.
