Fiat oil changing

Fiat oil changing
Hey everyone,
For reasons that will go unexplained at this point, I have a brand new Fiat 500.
It now has 512 miles on it. Should I go ahead and change the oil and filter? I've always heard that you change the oil on a new car at 500 miles. Does this come from a time when cars didn't have oil filters?
I've been through a GM engine plant(Tonowanda) and have seen the pressurized milk bath the blocks get during milling, and I'm pretty sure there aren't many shavings left once it is complete. But I have no idea about this foreign stuff.
It will probably cost me 50 bucks at the dealer but if it will help the car in the long run I wouldn't mind doing it. I'm stuck with this car for awhile and I want to help it along as much as possible.
Come to think of it, every car I've owned since the first one(a 70 Cutlass) I've changed the oil once I drove 500 miles. Tribal knowledge at its best I guess.
Thanks much.
Mike

They seem like neat little cars. I wouldn't feel bad about booting around in one (as long as it had three pedals). You certainly don't have to worry too much about new cars. You get in 'em and drive them like you stole it. Break-ins are a thing of the past.
Just follow your little book in the glove box.

Thanks you guys. Don't get a new car in the stable very often I didn't know quite what to think.
Red Delta what is that little movie that's playing in your signature? That's cool as hell.
