1960 Olds "98" Convertible

I'm a new member of the post. I own an all original never restored '60 Olds "98" convertible in white with tri-tone red interior. I have never seen another one at a show. I have shown the car for the past 14 years and have won best original many many times. Just wondering if anyone else has one. I would post a photo but I have no idea how to do that. Don't have a convertible, but a two door hard-top. They are pretty uncommon...I could count the number of '60 Oldsmobiles I've seen in this area on one hand. Never had mine to a show...someday. It's pretty close but not quite there. I'd love to see some pics of your car too!

Thank you Robert!

Thanks so much for posting the photos of my car. Others are asking to hear more about it. Well, believe it or not, it's an original car; no repaints; no re-chromes. I detailed under the hood about eight years ago to exacting specifications. If you look real close at the photos with the top up, you can see the Canadian plates in the back ground. That's because it has been driven to Quebec City Canada three times. That's a 9 hour trip one way from where I live in Auburn, New Hampshire. The car is ultra dependable!

I added the Foxcraft skirts with stainless scuff shields and the underdash Olds vacuum gauge as I always like to drive with a vacuum gauge. I have owned the car for 14 years so it's getting to the point when I am going to part with it, but as you can imagine, it won't be cheap!

Thanks again!

Thumbs up

Hey there, I have a 1960 Olds 98 convertible, it is pretty much all original, engine was rebuilt some years back, I have to replace the floor pans, the interior is tri-tone tan and is quite dirty and worn, the back plastic window is missing from the top but the rest of the top is perfect, but the car is in great shape and is so beautiful. It was used as a daily driver for quite some time. I even have the receipts and dealer paperwork from when it was bought April 20, 1960. And I, as you said, also have not seen another one. I replied before looking at your pictures, so I'm going to do that after this, I dont have a very good picture of mine but I'll post one anyway. well just saw that you wanted to see if someone else has one and I do haha.

thanks

60 Convertible,

Are your wheels white? I just joined the list -- our middle son is inheriting a 60 Olds 98 four-door hardtop from his Grandfather and when I checked out the paint codes, it looked like the wheels were supposed to be white. It has a Cordovan Metallic (like a chocolate brown) lower body and a Provincial White roof, which is the same color listed for the wheels. We have the same two-piece wheel trim pieces, chrome outer ring and inner hubcap, but wide white walls.

Btw, "our" 60 has 102K on its 394, was and will be a daily driver.

Thanks, Steve

Wheel Color

Sorry I'm so late getting back to you but I have been away and off line for a while. 60 Oldsmobiles that came with dog dish wheel covers were painted the accent color of the car. If the car was while with red interior, the wheels were painted red. Or if the car was brown with a whie roof, the wheels were painted white. If the car came through with deluxe (full) wheel covers with clips, the wheels were painted dove gray ala Cadillac.

1960 Olds 98 Pace Car

Just wondering if anyone has any information on the 1960 Oldsmobile Pace Car that paced the 1960 Indy 500. It's sort of a loaded question as I have spent the past few months digging into the subject.

"Dog dish" was used by those who did not know the difference.

1960 Oldsmobile Indy Pace Car

I am gathering information on the 1960 Oldsmobile Pace Car used in the 1960 Indy 500 race. So far, I have been in touch with the Indy 500 office, Skillman Olds in Indianapolis (formerly Charlie Stewart Oldsmobile), and Mr. Charlie Stewart himself about two weeks ago. What I have found out about that race and the cars used is quite interesting. I am in the process of contacting the winner of the race, Jim Rathman. He is the ooldest living winner of the Indy 500 and is in good shape for his age (90). He got $110,000.00 and the 60m 98 convertible for winning the race. I am trying to trace the serial number of the actual car he was given. There were a total of 8 60 Ninty Eight convertibles used in the race tiself and a total of 60 (not the year, but 60 of them) used in the entire month long promotion of the race. I have found that most of the info that one finds on the internet is inacurate. Some say the Olds that paced the reace had white interior, and some say it had blue interior. According to Charlie Stewart, who supplied all of them, they were all white with the typical double red with white stripe interior. Anyway, when I am finished compiling all the information, I'll report what I find.
