Engine RPM at Highway speed??
Can anyone with a 66 Ninety Eight or similar full size tell me what engine RPM I should expect to see at 60MPH(100KPH)??
I just got a new tach and its reading close to 5000RPM at that speed. I know that is WAY off and the tach is bad. I just want to know what I should be looking for when I install the replacemnt tach.

I don't have the specs at my fingertips, but I believe that a stock '66 should have anywhere from a 2:56 to maybe a 3:31 gear, so 5,000 RPM @60mph is out of the question.
Does the tach have a selector for number of cylinders?
Is it connected to the negative coil terminal (the one that goes to the points)?

Craig: My '67 Delta 88 has a 3.08 rear end. I had my tach recalibrated last year. It reads between 2500 and 2600 rpm at 60 mph. I run the correct diameter tires, 235/70/15 (28").
