transmission conversion

My car is done and I am sick of the POS Slim Jim transmition. I had it rebuilt when I first got the car but have never been happy with how it shifted or disengaged when you come to a stop. I am panning on installing the $900 trans adapter and a 700R4 trans. Has anyone done this? Any comments or suggestions?

That is probably the best idea you could have. I have a 64 98 with a Slim Jim and it is a POS. Check out this post, there is a link in it that you will like.

I think I will get the adapter and trans ordered tomarrow. It is a great car other than the trans. I have been afraid to drive it any distance because of the trans. I was between doing the trans or doing a complete engine trans swap but I think I will do just the trans. I was hoping someone else had done it and would let me know what they thought. I have too much money into this car now but it is no good if I can not drive it, so here goes another $2500

There are two ways you can go.

Bendtsen's makes an adapter kit:

There is an article on their website showing installation into a Pontiac.

Tanson's modifies your newer transmission case to bolt directly to the block:

Don't know which is the better way to go.

Keep us posted on your progress.
