Series Numbers????

I am looking through the Chassis manual for my 1966 Olds 98 LS 4 Door Sedan & all the vehicles are referred to as a number instead of a name. What is the series number of my car???

Ther's a section in the Olds Wiki on the series numbers but it's confusing because everything runs together, give it a try and see if it makes sense.

All the Olds CSMs I've seen have a section that lists the models and numbers, usually in the General Information section. Your car's body tag (under the hood on the firewall) should have the style number for your 98.

I believe the 98 was series number 3800.

Sorry, no.

For the 1964-1972 model years, the first two digits are the series number, the last two are the body style.

All 3XXX and 4XXX series are A-body (Cutlass/442/Vista).
All 5XXX and 6XXX are B-body (Eighty Eight)
All 8XXX are C-body (Ninety Eight)
All 9XXX are E-body (Toronado)

In my chassis service manual, the numbers for the various series are listed for the '66 model year. Unfortunately, I am on the road and don't have access to my bible. I can scan it in when I get home tomorrow or the next day.

If I forget, just drop me a line.

Cool, that should make that wiki a lot easier to understand.

The 1966 98 LS is series 86, isn't it?

I recall the FSMs I had for my 1964 98 explained that. I guess I just forgot the numbers. I believe my 1971 FSM also explains that.

Just to verify what has been stated above for 1966:
9400 and 9600 Toronado - some engine difference but I don't know what
8600 Lux Sedan
8400 All other 98's including Town Sedan
5800 All Delta 88's
5600 All Dynamic 88's
5400 Starfire
5200 Jetstar 88
I won't go into the F-85/Cutlass unless someone asks.
