New member. New owner 1970 442 owner
Hello everyone. Complete newb and non gear head. Family car when I was a kid was a cutlass supreme and I fell in love with it. Always fantasized about someday having a '70 cutlass convertible and out of the blue my wonderful wife surprised me with a '70 442 convertible which has been restored. I am a lucky guy and in over my head Will be asking a lot of questions and unfortunately won't have a lot of wisdom to offer in return.
I am west of Chicago.

Welcome fellow Chicagolander! BEUTIFUL car! Where are you located? I'm in Bartlett. The best way to gain some knowledge on this sight is to read all the posts you can. My knowledge has grown by 3X by just reading. Like citcapp said, there are a lot of smart guys on this site that help a lot of people. The best way I've found is to click the "New Posts" tab and read through the posts that interest me. I usually do that a couple, if not more, times a day. If your close I wouldn't mind stopping by and checking out your ride and answering any questions you have.

Welcome aboard,
I'm not sure why you're "in over your head" since you have a restored car... It looks wonderful; enjoy driving it and showing it off. You have the wife a lot of guys here dream of.

Allan R,
I've been a dealership regular maintenance guy with my vehicles and have been lucky enough to not need to trouble shoot too many car related issue myself. I want to keep the 442 running and looking great so I'm assuming it's going to be a steep learning curve. I see you're in Edmonton. In case my user name didn't give it away I'm also Canadian though living in USA. But I'm from the nice part of Canada

Welcome to CO
Something I learned after buying my Cutlass is the new oil formulations are not good for your year car. They don't have Zink in them and your cam and lifters (if not roller type) will wear prematurely. I use a racing oil called Brad Penn but there are others out there. Others on this site can advise you of this too. Good luck and Enjoy the sweet car.

Awesome car you have there, man what a wife! Mine is stomping around the house since I just bought one, tells me she will never get in it, I hope she does one day. I love your new ride!
