Greg Godon's 69 442 Post
I stopped in at Greg's last Saturday. He just painted a 70 LT Vette for a customer. But I went to see his latest find from Montana. A 69 Olds 442 Post. Seems to be a very well preserved car with unusual options and colors. Crimson with a Gold CLOTH interior. Its a bench seat, automatic. Greg decided it needed a re-paint. Car came with original engine and steel wheels and hub caps. I'll let Greg add more detail.

Like Bob said its a very original car.All #s match T400,air, PS, PDB, Powerbench seat, Cloth seats, tinted glass, deluxe seat belts,B90 window trim, light group,AM deluxe radio,Y73 GT stripe,Heavy duty battery, steel wheels, dog dish hub caps. Special ordered by a lady in Great Falls Montana always garage kept. Still has original trunk spatter paint. Had one outside repaint jambs still original. All original sheetmetal, floors still have original paint no rust. 75,000 documented miles.Build sheet probably has one uner gas tank also, will find out when I pull the tank.

Original taillights from car cosmeticly restored these are almost as nice as the NOS tallights for my other 69 442 post car. All the chrome trim looks new just needs a little detailing. This car is the quality I used to get back in the 80s very hard to find today unless your paying in the 30,000 plus range.

The upper and lower rear control arms were redone using NOS bushings. The rear end was cleaned and painted this was a very nice pit free housing and control arms and all the markings were reapplied as found. Used a castiron paint that I formulated, color is darker than it appears in the pics. Found a stamp marking on the lower control arms( NZ) but have no way to duplicate it, I might try to get a stamp made for future restores. Thinking about putting a posi in it if I can find a posi carrier for 3:23.When I got the car the guy had a Pontiac rear with a 3:08 posi in it,I got the original rear end with the car when I bought it. Going to sell the Pontiac rear.

Well I just couldnt leave well enough alone. Pulled body off frame and going to do it right. More pics to follow. Frame has most of the original paint on it and NO pitting. I have most of the parts plated and ready to go back on on the shelf(bolts clips linkage motor mnt pads etc) the balance is so nice it just needs cleaning or repainting.

Greg's car is just going to be a really neat car. Especially with the Redlines and Dog Dish caps. I think his intention is to run it through the Mecum Spring Auction at Indy in May.
I hear the frame got stripped this afternoon and will be in paint tomorrow.

Normaly things dont go this fast. This car is so nice that its a breeze to do and everything is just working out well. Also getting to the shop @ 3:00 am and working 12-14 hr days helps. The blaster did the frame and control arms while I waited, only took him a half hr.He was blown away at the condition of the parts. I would have rather dipped the parts but it would have been at least 2 weeks before I got them back and more than double what it cost to blast them. Bob is correct the car will be forsale when completed. Thinking about running it thru Mecum Indy, just need to get it done in time.

I sent Bob somemore pics and he should be posting them soon.Front suspension is assembled and hung,a frames have the correct upper ball joints with rivets and are painted correct a bit glossier than the frame as is the trans crossmember.Contrary to some beliefs the trans crossmembers were completely painted black, actualy Ecoated. I have had countless trans crossmembers and have done around 30 frame offs and NEVER found a bare metal trans crossmember. Front and rear coil springs were bare metal when new but these had been replaced and had already been painted so I cleaned them and left them. All other parts, spindles, sterring knuckles, backing plates, caliper brkts (NOS),tierod assemblys, draglink, idler arm, Motor mnt pads brk porportion valve etc are all bare metal was left natural and were treated (Not painted or cleared) so they wont rust. All nuts bolts and fasteners are plated correctly.
