2nd that, 40 came and went, the hair is still going and the aches and pains are still coming!
Richard, great work! What you are doing is awesome, it is what I love to do. I spent many hours working on my 68, Fortunately the body was is good shape as that is not my forte. I more so enjoy doing exactly what you are doing. Hopefully whoever buys it will join the board or already be part of it

Jeez.. You do some awesome work! As I've told you, I'm pretty new to this site but the work I've seen from members here is just fantastic!
Also belated birthday! I remember the big 4-0 like it was yesterday (Instead of almost 20 years ago!).
Can't wait to see this car running up and down the streets!

Interesting thread... My latest resurrection is also a 1968... I had one back in the early 70's when working as a Olds parts manager and have always wanted another.
It always amazes me to see what "modifications" people have made to these classics thru the years. I know I spend more time and effort undoing what some one had changed than I do repairing 40 years of neglect.
Good job on the wiring harness... you've inspired me to give it a try on this one.
Also, happy belated 40th... reminds me that I got back into restorations on my 40th birthday by purchasing a 1972 Corvette LT-1. 23 years later (and a lot more Aspercreme), I've promised myself this is the last one... we'll see how well I keep that promise (lol)

Thanks guys...
A little time outside tonight. My shop is starting to look empty. I sold the 69 Cougar over the weekend and made some more space.

After my drive the other night I noticed the heater core is leaking so one more thing to have to tackle.

First thing I did was pull the fenderwell for access to the outs nuts and screws. Notice still has the red stripe hose. Its a shame one was too brittle and I won't be able to reuse it.

Here you can see the nice new one next to the old one.

Heater box all cleaned up ready to put back together. I left it hanging outside so it can air dry during the day Tuesday.

I have a little hammer and dolly work to do in the flange of the outside box. I gues someone tried to remove it with the wheel well in place at one time. They bent the crap out of it. at one place by the fan there was 3/4 gap between the firewall and the housing. I guessing the heater did not work so well on a cold day.

not forgotten yet the 442 is still here. Tonight I finally got the brakes to where I was comfortable to drive more then 20mph. After replacing nearly everything in the brake system the car still would not stop. You really had to bury you foot in it to get it to slow down. The olnlt thing I had not replaced is the shoes because they were like new. As a last resort I replaced them tonight and I have brakes. I guess the shoes on it had gotten old and hard and just barely made any friction.
This thing is a hoot to drive. With the 3.90 gears even cruising along in 3rd at 45mph it starts violent tire spin and wheel hop if you nail it.

Putting the finishing touches on the car tonight to have it ready to display at the Zone show this weekend. One thing thats been drivng me crazy is how to mount the side mirror. I was missing the special bolts that have an allen head at the end of the stud and a wide base to hold the mirror. Ive asked around several times and no one has been able to produce any and they are not ave separate in the aftermarket world that I can find.
Last night it clicked. Use an allen head set screw and weld a nut to it. I stoped at the hardware store lunch with my dollar in hand for all the supplies needed. It worked perfect.

Same if you are military, PD or EMS - people can't stand you until they need you, then they're your best buddy...
right up until they don't need you anymore.
