Steering wheel swap
Guys,
I have the optional wheel on my '69 442. However its been dyed and also is super sticky so i was planning to change it for a new GM wood grain wheel like used on the 68.
I saw on the parts place they have the compete kit for a '68 but not sure if it will fit my column ( non tilt - floor shift)
will it fit?
i like the original wheel but it will cost a lot to restore so i was thinking this would be a good option, plus i've always liked the classic look.
Not sure if anyone has done this type of swap but let me know if it will fit or if you can tell me how to make it work
Thanks
John

One issue is that the 69+ column is a bit fatter but the '68 used the THREE spoke faux wood wheel. So, what you REALLY need is the adapter for the FOUR spoke fairly common 1969+ sport wheel, with a small milling operation to accommodate the fatter area where the third spoke is. That way you have the wheel you want and the larger hub to match your column.

HUB, Sport steering wheel, 3-spoke type per 68 AM
[1968 smaller dia (~3.7") column]
(ebayer says Hub PN 3900579)
(another says Hub PN 3923697)
(another ebayer says PN 3937896)

HUB, Sport steering wheel, 4-spoke type, 69-72
[larger dia (~4.1") column]
Rumor has it there is already a GM part that will do what you need:
HUB, Sport steering wheel, 3-spoke type
69-72 larger dia (~4.1") column;
[used on Buicks with rubbery rim 3-spoke wheel]
