1968 Cutlass S inside Hood Release

The Cutlass did not come with a inside hood release until 1970, does anyone know if one sold for a 1970-72 Cutlass will work? If not where can I get one that will work? Thanks.....T

Uh, the 70-72 cars don't have an inside release either. They did have an optional inside hood lock mechanism, but this requires the correct latch on the core support, which will not fit your earlier car. The hood lock simply tripped a lever in the latch mechanism on the core support to prevent the external latch from working. If you care about security, consider a cable and padlock that is accessed from under the front of the car.

One trick I have seen- remove clip from receptacle hole for lower end of vertical rod from finger lever to latch. Leave rod out of hole until you need it. It'll seem to be broken, to the intruder.

I just thought of a clever enhancement- place a magnet nearby, a bit aft, to hold the lower end of the rod almost out of reach. Only the wise will be able to get past that quickly.

If your concerns go beyond that, perhaps it needs an attention getter that makes noise and/or summons you if the hood gets opened.

Thanks guys I'm actually looking at a cable with a metal rod that will secure the hood to the top of the radiator support. Still looking and researching.
