1970 442 soft top assy removal

I am getting ready to repaint my '70 442 convertible. I want to remove the complete soft top assy. Does anyone know if the rear bow is detachable? The top assy is wider at the back than the well opening so it will seal when the top is up. How do I get the assy out after everything is loose? All help is greatly apprieciated.

You can email any photos to me at bigvettmike@aol.com

Thanks in advance for any help.

Mike

Are you talking about the area below the rear window? If you are, that is the rear tack strip and it is bolted to the body below the pinchweld molding and above the water gutter. On my 68 cutlass it is a 2 piece design.

Thanks, On my car there is a rear bow that bolts to the top frame on both sides. After unbolting it there is still not enough clearance to remove it. How is your attached?
Thanks for the information,
Mike
