1984 HO issue

My problem is the gauges are not working. Local guy showed me how to clean the contacts on the back side and rlug in the cluster. Replaced all the bulbs at the same time. Bulbs work. Gauges did not. Then the water pump shot craps so I pulled all the stuff in the way to get the pump out and fixed that. While testing I noticed the gauges worked correctly. Later this afternoon they did not work again. Is this a ground issue? If so where is the ground so I can sand it off for better ground relative to the gauges? Any info is appreciated.

If memory serves. The area where plug that flexible strip is losing contact. I used electrical tape to build up the area to put some pressure on the plug.

Did you tape the cluster side or the contact in the dash?
