carburetor install / adjust

Can anyone suggest a good book or online article that covers the steps to install a carburetor in a 1970 442 or similar car with a quadrajet ? I'm finally getting around to this after locating the correct carb from another forum member almost 2 years ago....Wow ! Mainly looking at setting starting adjustments before firing engine, etc. 1970 442 W-30 ( 7040258 ). Does this make sense ? I hope so...

Well, for a stock installation, you can't beat the Chassis Service Manual.

For non-stock tuning, these are the two main books.

After installing carb, recommended procedure is to run both air/fuel screws all the way in and then back each out a full 2 1/2 turns. That should permit the engine to run. With engine running and a tach and vacuum gauges attached, adjust air/fuel screws to obtain highest possible vacuum and rpm readings. Once that is accomplished set the warm idle speed to recommended setting.

Carburetor install / adjust

Finally got around to installing the new carburetor but wasn't able to fire it up because the fuel line needs to be changed. Thanks to everyone for your input and I will check each suggestion. Included photo of install prior to calling it a night.

Does the fuel line need changed, or just some tweaking? It looks pretty close. They never line up perfectly and need a little adjustment.

^^^^ x2 tweak the line. spending $ on a new line will probably not improve the fit

I saw a couple video that helped me. Check the web/youtube. With a couple tech articles and some of the video's I was able to dial my carb in very nicely. The info on the secondary vacuum pull off was enlightening. So many people told me the wrong info previously no wonder my carb would run right.
