OK I have taken a peek at the timing chain and gears. I wedged the top of the plate out enough that I could get a long thin screwdriver to check the slack. THIS IS JUST AN ESTIMATE. I figure that there is about 3/4 inch or a little more of slack in the timing chain. As far as the gears go what I could see looks ok , so does the chain. I could see no evidence of any coating on the lower gear , looking down at it from the top all the teeth I could see on the top appear shiny and clean and also look uniform. I know that can not tell me the whole truth about the condition but from what I could see. My main concern is the slack in the chain , I would appreciate anyone with some experience in this to give me advice and options if there are any. Thanks

3/4" deflection is within tolerance, but if you're that far into the job, change it. It's cheap insurance. If there's a metal cam gear in there, it's already been changed.

It appears the chain is relativly new and so does cam gear so I will leave it alone , after i cleaned up behind plate lubricated and torqued bolts and waterpump down after some ultrablue.
