What if I took the engine out of this thing? What do you think this body would be worth? Or the engine? Ball Park.
Motor $500.00 tops unless there are reciepts and build specs

body $1500.00-2500.00 I can only assume the body is bondo and rust like most cars with that lack of quality in paint

Thats what i was thinking. You can tell by the angles and distances of the pics that he is trying to hide something with the body. LOL

Ok i just talked with the guy for about 15 min. He has NO specs on the motor. No receipts. He bought the car about 4 years ago like this and has no way of getting the info from the old owner. He said its a 2800 stall, but 4500 on the limiter for the trans brake Its a manual valve body in the trans. 10 bolt "chevy" rear with 456 gears, No rear seat. A little bondo on the passanger rear wheel well. (but you can see it ) said the floors are great, paint is nice. He doesnt have the heater stuuf but has all the wiper parts. He said "Engine runs strong". But he kept telling me that this is a true ROCKET original engine. I had to tell him 3 times that all Olds engies where called rocket engines . Tried telling me it was 13-1 comp. And it would run on 93 oct. I told him it would detonate and brake a rod or piston with that low octane, then he said he would fill it 1/2 up with 101, and 1/2 with 93. Then he started saying it puts out around 550 hp. I asked what heads where on it. He said It has the "Rocket" heads. I asked what number. He didnt even know what i was talking about. I had to tell him where it was. Then he just said "7". I asked what he ran at the track. He said he only took it about 4 times and ran about 9 sec, without the trans brake. I said what 1/8th mi. He said thats all they run around there, but he had 1 1/4 mi pass at 12.50 I told him the numbers just dont add up9s in the 1/8 is a total DOG. I said my 4 door does faster then that in the 1/8 with a 2.78 rear. Then he said that was without the trans brake. LOL So i kept going and asking more. At the end of our conversation i asked about oil pressure. He said "i never looked" So i asked him to start it up and run it till it warms up, Look and see what the oil pressure is cold and warm, then call me back with the numbers. He called back and said it was 45psi cold, then when it warmed up it went "UP" 3-4 PSI. I said UP? and he was sure thats what it did.

So just from talking with the guy i could tell he has NO clue about OLDS or even cars in general. Sounds like the guy before him built this car up, then this Joker bought it. Who knows this car might be worth 5Gs, but without getting there and looking at the car and driving it you will never know! Sounds like this car is not a DRIVER! It would need some work to turn it into one. Without some money, tools, knowledge, time, and a place to work on it, i would just pass on this one if i was you. Unless you have all the things stated i wouldnt even look at it. But if for some reason you do, PLEASE bring someone that knows about drag cars with you, or you might end up with a lemon!

OK I take back everything I said. Its a super duper deal. In fact to make sure he does not back out I think you should pay the 4000.00, your Mustang and throw in a shiny Schwinn bike too. Do it do it do it.

first things first , Inspect exhaust pipes for oil or excessive carbon, They should have a light gray on the inside of the pipe. pull all the plugs and look at them. They should all be the same and the point gap can be adjusted to cover up faults. put the #1 cylinder on top dead center, which is very easy on this engine, using a long (12") rod slowly turn engine until #1 piston is at the top of the stroke and verify that the timing mark on the harmonic balancer is also at top dead center. now do a compression test. I have a stock 70 455 and it has 180 lbs. on all cylinders. Another sign of a high compression engine is that it should have a heavy duty starter .

If Louisiana is patient, I'm sure we can find him a good driver for 5K that he will be happy with somewhere in this network.

We were all young once and got mezmerized (sp?) by some clapped out car that wouldn't be practical. Sometimes it still happens to me... once a week or so

Fixed it for you. $1000.00 hardly puts a down payment on paying someone fix a rusty car.

I talked to louisianaboy today on the phone. I explained it all to him. I think he understands now why people are against him getting the car. He is open to other options. I did some looking around and found some cars near him. Im just waiting on an email to send the links.

Alright I'm starting to get you guy's drift, ya i think the guy that owns it knows less about it then I do and am starting to realize why its been sitting in his drive way for 4 months haha and i appreciate all you guys especially f 85 (for calling that guy) helping me change my mind on that car. But I am looking for a 67-72 muscle car up to 5,000 and my car for boot ( 89 5.0 Mustang) and i see that oldsmobile has the best prices so far, So if anyone know of anything in the kentucky or tennessee area please lt me know. Im not looking for something all original or collectiable my mom has a 69 shelby cobra gt500 soon to be mine HOPEFULLY!!!! haha But anything that looks sharp and runs well. I really like those 69's pretty nice but also have a high price tag on most lol
And again i just want to thank everyone for pitching in and helping me not buying that car.

Glad to see you have shown a little restraint in buying this car. The good thing that happened here was that you found this website where there are a lot of guys who have gone through the the same things when they were young and maybe blinded by a nice shiny motor or the promise that it would be a hit with the ladies or percieved as a cool guy with a cool car. Age teaches us that patience is a virtue worthwhile in all aspects of our life. I am sure that there are a lot of members who have their own stories of bad deals because of a rush to judgement. One thing that I have learned and will continue to learn (I hope) is that life is an ongoing learning experience. The trick is to learn from our mistakes so we don,t repeat them in the future. I will be 51 in 4 days ( feb.4 ) and have repeated too many mistakes and everyone will at some point in their lives , but we just have to put it behind us and move on. ( I usually just try to kick myself in the rear just once ) You can take this as both a learning experience and a positive one. Ther are a lot of good old muscle cars out there it just takes a little time and effort to find the one that suits you.GM , Ford or Dodge all had cars during this era that are now collectable but movies and TV have glorified some and the surge to collect them has priced them out of most peoples budget ,ie. Sheby Mustang GT 500 aka Ellanore? Just remember all collectors have their own websites where you can get advice from guys that have been through it all before and can guide you to look for the right things which will help you determine what is a good car for a good deal. Good luck and I hope you find a car right for you.
