New member introduction.
Hello, I just purchased a 1974 Omega as my first "muscle car" though it is lacking the "muscle" part of the term as of now. I am from California and just was tired of smog, so I was searching for a nova (man Nova's are pricey) and found the omega by chance for $2200.
The car in question is a 1974 omega hatchback. The car has 44,000 original miles (although not a totally showroom 44K) has the original yellow paint with the original "Hurst" style pinstriping, It is a bucket seat, console shift, factory AC,350 4bbl gold rocket engine, black vinyl top on black "wet look" vinyl interior. Body is real straight with no rust. The car is mostly original with addition of metering gauges, a tachometer, dual exhaust with coffin style mufflers, and a Holly 600 carb (original is in box). I know nothing about this car so I found this site and hopefully will gain some knowledge. Thanks. I will post pics as soon as I can Last edited by 74omega; June 4th, 2008 at 03:02 PM.. |

You got yourself a nice car friend. I think a good tune-up and that thing should be very fun to drive. Welcome to our site.

Thanks for the welcome.. I am very happy with the car. I will button it up with new suspension parts first, and do a thorough safety checkup.
I am however dismayed by its current performance. Upon research and replacement of daily R&R parts, my plans will be to source early #5,6,7, 7a heads and follow Edelbrocks 397HP 350 olds package. I still will retain all factory a/c etc. WOW the only available hooker headers are $$$$$, almost makes me want to go SBC (almost lol).. I already have a POSI unit from my brothers 78 trans am he used for parts for his 73 Firebird. This project will start in the very near future. here is a pic from the craigslist AD I bought it from. ![]() Last edited by 74omega; June 6th, 2008 at 01:12 PM.. Reason: added pic |

I also just swapped gears from a 79 Trans Am, 3.73 posi. It went together so quick and easy, I still think I did something wrong.
Here are some pics durring the swap, I didn't take any of the posi installed. You may want to look into changing the speedo gear at the same time, I have not done it yet,(still working on it) the gear swap changed my speedo by about 15 to 20MPH. The funny thing is, it seems the faster I drive the more it is off ![]()

Dave, you should lay down two tracks of rubber for us and take a picture. That will let us know that your posi is working.

Welcome to our site, good luck in your search for parts. In the states they called it the Trofeo, didn't know they changed the name in Canada but not surprised.
