HELLO I AM THE NEW OWNER OF THIS 1968 OLDS 442 CONVERTIBLE IT HAS 74K ORIGINAL MILES, A 12 BOLT POSI REAR, 4 SPEED TRANNY, POWER ANTENNA, POWER TOP, POWER BRAKES, POWER STEERING, AND EXTRA LARGE RADIATOR. RED WITH BLACK INTERIOR.
I HAVE THE WINDOW STICKER, PROTECT-O-PLATE, OWNERS MANUAL WITH ORIGINAL BUYERS INFORMATION IN IT. IT WAS IN THE SAME FAMILY FROM NEW UNTIL I BOUGHT IT FOR $1000. WHAT DO YOU THINK ITS REALY WORTH? FLOORS ARE BAD, TRUNK IS BAD, FRONT LOWER FENDERS BAD, FENDER WELLS BAD, AND A LITTLE IN THE DRIVERS DOOR. ALL THE NUMBERS MATCH AND IT IS 100% COMPLETE. ITS NEVER BEEN APART AND NEVER BEEN WRECKED. BUY THE WAY ITS NOT FOR SALE.

Other than that...i'd say you definitely didn't waste a grand on it.

I think its awesome since it's a factory 4 speed and would drop 2K on it if it was complete without even thinking. Then I'd invest about 25K and it would be worth between 15 and 20K. Seriously, most guys would buy it for 1K and part it out to try and make a buck. But what does it matter if it's not for sale. Keep it and restore it over time or just park for a future restoration.

All automotive forums should have a 'sticky' explaining the futility of the question, "Whats this car worth?"

Its one of the most commonly asked questions and its the most impossible to answer.

If the owner asks $10 and you agree to pay $10, is that the value? If he asks $10 million and you agree to pay that, is that the value?

The ONLY answer to your question, is ---its worth whatever the buyer and seller agree on AT THAT MOMENT! and thats not the answer you want to hear

Interesting topic as I've done the same thing. $1,000 for my 67 442 conv. It just came back from the bodyshop $15,000 later and I still have a ways to go. I might get out of it for 22,000 if i'm lucky. 68conv455 hit the nail on the head. I wounder if I did the right thing but someone once told me that "you never pay too much for a muscle car, just the right price too soon!" So fix her up, drive it , have fun and maybe sell it a few years down the road.

From a strictly financial standpoint, I think it's worth more than $1,000. But what it is REALLY worth is how much you are willing to spend to get it to where you want it and enjoy it. I think the real value of these classics is in the satisfaction from owning them and working on them and sharing the fruits of our labor with those who happen to see them on the road and elsewhere. I don't see any '68 Olds ANYTHING where I live, let alone a 442. Your ride has a lot of potential. Enjoy! Chumley

I'd hold on to this one. I see it has its original 400 cubic inch motor too, which is rare indeed. most 442's that are in rough shape usually are missing the original 400's they were equipped with, and usually drop in a 455 in their place because finding a Olds 400 is difficult, and pricey to boot.

Hold on to this one, restore it over time - then you'll have something to cherish.

Thanks for all your feedback I just picked up a complete 68 cutlass convertible body for $500 to fix alot of my cars problems. Hopefully over the next few years I can make some real headway on it.
