Smog Emissions help

Hey guys, I need some help for a friend of mine.
He's got a 69 Camaro (I know, I know) 350, 10:1 compression and he's trying to register in Nevada. Fails smog check. They've leaned out the fuel all the way. It passes the 2500 rpm but not the idle test. One miss and it floods the tubes. He's running 91 octane right now, would going lower or higher octane help him? He has no catalytic converters. The aggressive cam seems to be the problem. Can't register it in another state, unfortunately.
Tricks of the trade? We've tried to think outside the box as far as cutting holes in the exhaust to let some gas escape or trying to make a system that will force outside air thru the pipe, or me having to flirt with the guy running it while my buddy kicks the probe out, haha. Please, I don't look good in drag!

have you considered an addative for the fuel to try to pass the test. I have seen more than one that guarentee it will work to pass the car. maybe check around your local auto parts or NAPA dealer?

Nevada requires a FOURTY year old car to be tested?????

Is the car original? If not, what's been done to it? Most states have a waiver limit if the car is stock with all emissions equipment in place.

By the way, cutting holes in the exhaust is not a good idea for two reasons. First, the new emissions test units can measure dilution of the exhaust, which is grounds for failure. Second, since the emissions tests measure either percentage or parts per million, it doesn't matter if you cut holes, the PPM and % remain the same.

Joe raised a good point here about exemptions for older cars. maybe you should check into antique status of your car? Most states and provinces consider any vehicle over 30 years old as an antique and if registered as such is exempt from emissions testing or at least has relaxed standards.

Fresh oil ..?

what timing..? vacuum advance ?, make sure you are on the right port ...

temp ..?

The easiest thing to do is go to Pep Boys and hunt up a mexican "Smog Mechanic"

I found a sure cure for passing the emissions test. It's called "Antique Plates" For a one time fee of 60 bucks....no more inspections period, as well as no annual registration fee! Emissions testing is rediculous anyway. Do they test commercial vehicles?.....NO. Do they let you buy credits from new vehicle owners to apply to your smog burner?......NO When this country gets serious about CO2 emissions, then I'll get serious!

I agree with the others. You should investigate registering the car as an antique vehicle. I find it amazing that this car requires emissions testing in the first place.
