Trunk Torsion Rod Adjustment
Ok, here goes:
I got a trunk liner for my 1995 Olds 98 from a 91 Touring sedan. Perfect.
Installed - fits perfect (just like it should).
Cost me more for the little plastic fasteners than it did for the liner!!
Only thing is now the trunk is "slightly heavier" and won't stay up with the torsion bar setting it's on.
So I slipped into the trunk and started on one side. Popped the torsion rod out of the middle setting. Bam! it launches to the package tray frame. I'm not that much of a contortionist and I can't figure out how to get ahold of the torsion rod and bring it down to the proper setting.
Anyone have any experience with this? Keep in mind that on this car, there is very limited room to work with. It's not like on a 72 A body where everything is wide open. I can get a set of vice grips locked around the torsion bar, but how do I get it pulled down to the 3rd step for the torsion leverage I need on the trunk?

Batter up .... or Step up to the plate... Please!
BUMP
Someone out there has to know the answer to this.. In the mean time I have no choice but to prop the trunk up with a hockey stick to keep it open!!! C'mon all you body experts. Nothing more embarrasiing than seeing an Oldsmobile that is crying out for help!!

. If I could do what you suggested, I actually have a tool a mechanic friend gave me that would be great for pulling down. I'll see if I can take some pics and post them so you can see what I'm talking about.
