Msd distributor coil wiring help

Hey all, I have a msd distributor in my car, was stock coil, I bought a msd blaster coil..before I installed it I checked and the resistor wire and yellow factory striped wire showed 12 volts using a volt meter.( these two are connected to one clip that goes to coil) So I hooked it up like a factory coil, horrible time starting, dieseling etc. i ran a jumper wire from the battery to the coil just to check ..car ran fine.. so I ran a wire from the ignition switch to the positive coil and disconnected the resistance wire and the yellow striped wire that attach to a clip to go to the coil.. took it out for a drive, runs well so far.. My question is did I do this correctly? Do I need to hook up the striped wire that is attached to the factory resistance wire for any reason? Appreciate any help

If you still have power to the coil in both the start and run positions of the ignition switch, then no the yellow wire does not need to be connected.

For safety purposes, 12-14 guage wire? I used a smaller guage, probably should replace it.. just don't get why the resistance wire showed 12 volts on a meter..

No resistor on Earth will drop the voltage if there's no current flow.

Yes, 12 or 10 gauge wire.
