Rear spoiler added!

After kicking it around ever since I bought this car back in '12 I finally bought a rear spoiler from Fusick & got it fitted yesterday. Had to "massage" the tops of the pedestals a bit so they fit flush to the wing but overall it fits nice. I've always loved the way they look on '68s. Now it's off to my buddies bodyshop for some paint.

I also got a new steering wheel to try out. I've always hated that fake walnut wheel!! It's too big & too thin. I was going get a repop '70 up wheel since it bolts right up to the '68 hub, but I found this one on epay for $89. It has the gm bolt pattern & uses all the factory hardware. It's a nice 14" diameter instead of the bus size 17" It looks orange in the pic for some reason but it has a nice mahogany finish on it.

Nice, I'm looking to buy the same spoiler for my 1970 cutlass. Have any tips for installation?

The Fusick spoiler I bought comes with a full-size plastic template that's accurate but it only has markings for the center holes(the longest studs that are screwed into the wing & go through the pedestals) out of the 3 on each side of the spoiler. The pedestals are marked A & B(L&R)as is the underside of the spoiler. When I put it together it looked like the left side pedestal was a little crooked,& it was(I measured from the front outside edge of the pedestal to outside edge of the wing & the left side was off by almost 3/8"!, luckily there was enough room inside the pedestal to enlarge the holes & get it to mount straighter. I drilled the 2 center holes on each side, removed the template & then put down a couple of layers of 2" painters tape. When I set the spoiler down it was easy to get the other studs to leave marks on the tape for the other holes. The short studs that are mounted in the pedestals were a little crooked?(I wasn't to happy about that!). All the studs are 1/4" but the template says to use a 5/16" drill. I drilled all 6 holes 5/16" as you'll need the "wiggle room" to get it to fit nicely. The center holes are just under 17" to the front edge of the lid. You can also get the hole layout from the '70 service manual right from this site or the wildaboutcars site(you have to be a member though) I hope this helps but the main thing is TAKE YOUR TIME!!!! It was nerve racking to say the least drilling 6 holes in my mint deck lid!!!!

Thumbs up Sharp!

I really like that look, also. I've a spoiler in the garage that will likely be mounted this summer. Thanks for the extra info about drilling and location.

Well after nearly a month I got my spoiler installed yesterday!! What a "cluster...." it turned into! If you read the earlier posts I mentioned that the left pedestal seemed to be crooked so I had to enlarge the mounting holes to get it to bolt to the wing straight. I installed the spoiler before it was painted, obviously, to make sure everything fit good & it did. I sent it over to get painted along with the factory trunk latch as it was the only thing I could unbolt that had factory paint on it. The car was painted over 20 yrs ago & it's a little lighter but all the jambs, underside of the deck lid ,etc are still factory paint. The color they came up with for my code "K" ocean turquoise paint wasn't even close,so I ended up taking the car up so he could get a digital paint image with his special camera. They came up with a decent match but it's not exact. I got it back after a week & went to install it,thinking this will be easy since everything was fitted before, boy was I wrong!!!. The left pedestal that I had so much trouble with originally ended up cracking when I snugged it up!!!! To say I was pissed was a huge understatement! In my younger immature days the spoiler would have probably been sticking half way through the garage wall!!!! I had called Fusick & told them about the poor fitment of the pedestal back when I first got the spoiler. I was worried I'd have to waste another $300 +paint costs on another spoiler but he remembered our conversation & sent me a new pedestal free of charge! The new one fit perfectly, the studs were straight & I didn't have to do anything with the mounting holes. I called Fusicks back & told them, they appreciated the feedback & said they'd let their vendor know. They are great people to deal with!!! Anyway it's on the car now & it looks cool!!

Nice upgrade

Looks great with the spoiler. Props to The vendor for doing the right thing. I think your calling them in the beginning was a very good decision. In the pictures the color looks dead on.

That's one spoiler that definitely doesn't 'spoil' the look of the car!
