funniest comment anyone ever made about your Olds....

I had driven my car to gas station (w-30 conv)for some fuel, and as I walked away from the car at the pumps, a man there fueling up his car commented "thats a 442 from H$LL isn't it" I commented back "I guess it is isn't it" I thought you guys would appreciate that comment. After driving our cars to shows and showing them off on the street we've probably all had some funny questions and comments about our favorite cars.

It's the same comment I get all the time about my '72 Cutlass, "I love that car, is that a Chevelle?", or "I love your Buick!". Sometimes feel like Rodney Dangerfield, but hey, let the whole world own Chevys as long as I have my Oldses!

I usually get a "what is that" or "that's really loud" or "are you going to restore it"? comments. I just think it is cool since it stands out from all the garbage that's made today.

You mean besides the "it's a 442 cubic inch engine" comment?

Well, I've had more than one person say "nice Judge" about my 69 H/O.

"Nice car....... what is it?" and "Did you make that hood yourself?" are the most unusual comments I've heard.

At a car show a guy and his girlfriend were looking at my engine. "What kind of car is this?" she asks. He looks for a name but only sees "442" "It's a Plymouth or some sort of Chrysler". he answers. "How can you tell?" she asks. He says "Because of the engine. It's a 440 2 bbl. Although I don't know why he wouldn't put a 4 barrel on that thing?"

Second place goes to the guy who said. "WOW! I had one exactly like this. Same thing! Except it was green and a four door." I told him that the 442 only came in a two door version... "Yeah, well, mine was a Malibu. God I loved that car."

People tell me all the time...

"That is an AWSOME car, you should put suicide doors on it."

I have to tell them time and again that it is an Oldsmobile, not a Lincoln.

When gas was over 4 bucks a gallon, whenever I filled up, some wise a$$ in an suv would usually say something like "I bet the mileage on that thing sucks!" Or "How can you afford to put gas in that?"
I told them like it was: "I did a 1700 mile trip with an average 19.8 mpg. What does your suv get?" They are then speechless.

I also often get the "What year is that", "Is it all original?", and the infamous "Are you interested in selling it?"

I had a guy tell me he one just like it, and he had to sell it because his dad said it was too fast. Said it ran 10 flat and pulled the wheels in first and second gear.

My buddy also had a guy say his car was a Mopar because of the 442 on the side. You know, 440 -two.

This is kind of funny. I just got a call from my mom telling me that my Firestone Wide Oval F70-14 Redlines just arrived from Summit Racing. She says "The redline looks really nice, but you're going to put those skinny things on that big car?" I just started laughing.

In 1990 I was in a Parade in Reno with my 69H/O. The commentator had notes on the car and driver in her hand and announced to the crowd "Here comes a beautiful Judge." I called up to her that it was a Hurst Olds and she hollered back "I KNOW MY CARS, AND THAT IS A JUDGE!" I just smiled and continued on. Of course what would I know, as I own it and grew up with it. Our whole car club laugh about it to this day.

"Does that engine have a cam in it?"

When your quik-detailing the car they ask, "Is this your car?"

"I used to have a car just like that except it was a Ford"

They walk up to you and say the year of the car then say "right?", when you correct them they argue about it " Are you sure?.. my friend had one and it wasn't that year?"

With my GTO I'm always being told it's not really a goat because it doesn't have hideaway headlights.

One guy told me his Ford could rev to 7000 RPM, could mine? I said "Sure....once?"

Another said that his newer Japanese car had a muti-valved engine and that the 455 Oldsmobile technology was old. I said that "this Oldsmobile has a 455 multi-valved engine". Wow," he said "they were really ahead of their time".

My '57 Olds hasn't ventured too far out of my garage since I purchased it, but I had it out in the driveway a few days ago. I live across the street from a school, and last week while waiting for my kids to come home, some kids stopped to look at the car.
"Dude, is that a '57 Chevy!?"

The front grill says "OLDSMOBILE" in huge chrome letters all the way across.
It makes me wonder if I'm sending my kids to the right school.

Best one I got was when I was outside my own Speed shop and some kid says "Hey, that's a nice homemade Ram Air setup!" I told him it was factory. He walked over and looked long at it. Walked away.

I doubt that it had anything to do with the car burning the hides and STILL pulling away from his "fast" Civic

Old Car young kid

So Roxy jumps in for her first ride in a 1969 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser.

The Driver says, "You can let down the window if you want."

Roxy looks at the door and says, "How?"

"Right there," replies The Driver.

"Where?", inquires Roxy again.

"The window crank, just turn it", says a perplexed Driver.

Roxy says while turning the window crank to lower the window (obviously a new invention]
"Wow this is cool, I've always wanted to do this!"

Some people say those things to make themselves look important. I think any owner of an older car that is obviously well kept is proud of it and likes compliments and intelligent questions. I don't ask if I don't know, but if I do know I say something like "Isn't that a '67 or '68 Galaxie? I am really not a Ford man but that sure is a nice car." The owner is usually genuinely happy with an honest compliment instead of a mindless statement intended to impress instead of compliment.
