1970 steering column?

Can anyone tell me from these pictures

1) if this is a 1970 column
2) if I need the neutral safety switch on the column and on the dual gate that is in my car already
3) is the electrical harness on there correct for my year 1970
4) there is a linkage at the end of this column where does that get connected to

Hello Steven
I can't tell for sure from the photos what the column is out of. The tilt lever has a black plastic end on it, that's like my 1971 but my 1970 non-tilt column has an all chrome blinker lever. So that may indicate 71-72 vintage. The ignition switch and the area of the column around the switch are different between 70 and 71.

Just the dual gate neutural safety switch is enough

If this is a 1971-72 going into a 1970 I suspect the harness is the same but am not sure of it.

The last floor shift car I drove did have a connection in the linkage as I could see the collar on the column turn as I move the floor shifter through the gears.

thanks John, as I do more and more digging I am finding out the column should connect - I finally grabbed a buddies 70 convertible and checked - when we shifted the floor shifter the column moved as you described, thanks for the info on the neutral safety switch as well. I have a couple of columns I'll have to see what each one has for the turn signal and tilt levers, didn't think of checking to see if they were different.

They sell that trans to column part at Year wun and explain the whole deal, "swivel and rod assembly". They say you need it for the reverse lights to work and to lock the shifter/trans.

Doesn't the '70 Column have chrome fluted levers and the 71-72 have smooth chrome levers with the black ends?
The harness end connector is wired directly to the turn signal switch so if worse comes to worse you could just change the switch. They are listed at rockauto as the same from '69-'76 so it should work.
The cancelling cam for tilt wheels is the hard to find part, treat it nice if you have to take apart the column to fix the dreaded GM tilt wobble.

Only Weebles should wobble.

He doesn't need it for the reverse lights. That is part of the neutral safety switch mounted to his shifter.
You do need the rod hooked up for the column lock out to function. Also the "fingers" on the lock cylinder are different on the 71-72 columns. This is what I believe you have. You should be able to swap your over as I think you would want to anyway to keep the doors and ign the same.
