HEI wire source

When converting from a points dist, to an HEI dist., what source do you guys use for a lead wire to the dist., I have read that the factory wire going to the + side of the coil is not the way to go. Thanks

Use the IGN terminal in the fuse box.

The factory harness for a points distributor has two wires. One is hot in START only and is copper so it provides full 12V for starting. The other is a resistor wire that knocks this down to about 9V in the RUN position for improved life of the points. I like to simply replace this resistor wire with copper and hook both to the BATT terminal of the HEI.

My 69 has only one wire (external resistor) so do I need to find another source? Thanks

Not from the factory it didn't. There should be a black wire with pink or orange stripe that is the resistor wire for the RUN position and a yellow wire that is the 12V source for the START position.

An alternative is to run a new copper wire from the IGN spade terminal in the fuse box to the BAT terminal on the HEI.
