80 holiday 88
Hello,
Just new here. I have inheritted a 1980 Delta 88 Hoilday 88 2 door coupe from my uncle. He is the original owner of the car. Hoping to learn a little more about the Holiday 88 package on these cars. If anyone, has any knowledge on them please speak up. Thanks |

They are pretty much just Regular Delta 88s with bucket seats and a floor shifter. They had a sport steering wheel, and a spicy orange paint option available. Obviously, different badges too.
There probably weren't a whole lot made, but I don't think that makes them any more valuable personally. They still had a dog of a drive train in a less desirable car. I almost bought one about 2 or 3 years ago, but the guy wanted 5 or 6 grand for it. Thought it was super special or something. I quickly walked away and bought an 85 2 door for 75 bucks, and he's still trying to hock the holiday. ![]()

I imagine parts are tough to come by. It's been awhile since I've seen the car, but I know it needs the front bumper impact strip. Car is black, with a black vinyl top and a dark maroon interior. It only has 60k on it, so I am considering giving it a paint job and sprucing it up a bit. I probably will not have the car for another 3-4 weeks, but I'll post some pics when I get her home. What is it that attracts you to these cars? Style, dependability, driveability?? Just curious. Thanks again Martie. |

I just like the way they look I guess. They're not as heavy as you'd think for such a big car either. The motors,transmissions and rear ends are not very great for fun and/or power, but the cars ride nice. I used to have an 80' It was my favorite one out of the bunch, because it still had the 77-79 style steering wheel and dashboard switches. The grills and tail lights in 80' were only a 1 year run and in my opinion look the best out of the 5 years of the production.

I love them 4 Style, dependability And driveability my dad has 1 with 212.000 miles still runs strong just have to take care of them {: . hopefully i get 1 this summer ! i would like a 82 royal 88 4 or 2 door so i can have some fun with it!

If you want a 4 door, I can find one of those for 300-400 bucks. They're still a dime a dozen.
2 doors that aren't rot boxes, are pretty rare. GM made drain holes in the Quarter panels to prevent rust, but that stupid chrome trim along the bottom covers up the friggin drain holes. Morons ![]()

I have a qtr panel I cut from a car in texas, that still had a rot hole under that trim.
Whenever you find one of these deltas for sale, the guy selling the car doesn't want you removing the trim, and gets all bent out of shape. You have to use a torch to heat the screws out, or they'll strip. You can't drill them out because they'll just ruin your bit. I've been told to get lost more than once looking at used 80's deltas. If I can't take that trim off, I'm not buying. Unless of course It's 200 bucks or less. ![]()

3547 1980 Holiday 88s built per Standard Catalog of Oldsmobile, all on L37 base Deltas.Option Y78 same as earlier A and X body Salons. Cost $295 and included bucket seats, console/floor shift, sport mirrors, sport steering wheel, Holiday 88 badging and color-keyed wheelcovers. Any engine/transmission including Diesel was available as were all other Delta options that were compatible with the interior.
Considering there were only 6845 base 1980 Delta coupes built, Holidays accounted for over half the production.

My dad had a 2 tone burgundy 79 or 80 Delta 88 coupe. It had the 403 that spun a main bearing one day...he blamed me because I got it stuck in the snow. That was a decent car. He replaced it with a yellow 79 coupe that I never liked.
